Backlund notched a goal, two assists (one with the man advantage), three shots on net, two blocked shots, a minor penalty and a plus-2 rating during Friday's win over the Canucks.
EDGE Analysis
After posting a career-high 47 points last year, it's been a mediocre start to the campaign for Backlund. Friday was just his third multi-point night of the year, and his seven goals, 19 points and 88 shots hardly move the fantasy needle outside of deep seasonal settings. Additionally, beating up on the lowly Canucks doesn't boost Backlund's value.

Backlund netted his fifth goal of the season and added a pair of assists in Saturday's blowout win over Winnipeg.
EDGE Analysis
Backlund has managed to be productive during the team's current six-game winning streak, racking up two goals and five points. The third-line center is up to 15 points in 31 games and has been of value in some deeper fantasy leagues. He's never been known for being a massive point producer, but he plays on the power play and is currently skating alongside youngster Matthew Tkachuk, so there's no reason to think he can't keep producing at a steady rate.

Backlund scored a power-play goal and registered six shots on net through 21:52 of ice time during Friday's win over the Wild.
EDGE Analysis
After a career-high 21 goals and 47 points last season, Backlund hasn't exploded out of the gate offensively this year (four goals and 11 points). On the plus side, he is averaging 2.44 shots per game and entered Friday's game averaging 19:13 per night over his prior 10 games. Still, Backlund began 63.6 percent of his five-on-five shifts in the defensive zone before the game against Minnesota, so his offensive upside is hindered by his role.

Backlund scored the game-winning goal in Sunday's 3-2 win over the Red Wings.
EDGE Analysis
It's just the second goal of the campaign for the Swede, who has underwhelmed a lot of owners in 2016-17 after last year's output of 21 tallies. Backlund actually hadn't recorded any points in his last eight games, so hopefully he'll start finding the scoresheet more consistently now that he's put a halt to his scoring skid.

Backlund recorded his fifth assist of the year and posted a plus-2 rating during Friday's game against Ottawa.
EDGE Analysis
A strong finish (31 points over the final 42 games) propelled Backlund to a career-high 47 points last year, and he's off to a respectable start in 2016-17, too. The 27-year-old pivot doesn't provide significant production in the peripheral statistics, though, and he's often tasked with matching up against the opposition's best players. He's better viewed as a complimentary piece in deeper leagues than a go-to fantasy asset.

Backlund set up a pair of goals in Wednesday's 7-4 loss to the Oilers on Opening Night.
EDGE Analysis
Backlund assisted on Michael Frolik's shorthanded goal midway through the second period before grabbing the secondary apple on a power-play marker by Dennis Wideman in the third. Despite also skating to a minus-2 in the game, this was a nice start for the 27-year-old, who is looking to improve on last year's career-high 47-point showing in 2016-17.

Backlund (concussion) will play in Sunday's exhibition contest against the visiting Jets.
EDGE Analysis
This will be Backlund's first game since sustaining the concussion at the World Cup of Hockey. He was carefully monitored by team doctors who were in Toronto for the international tournament. The Swedish center is known to play a 200-foot game and he sees the ice well. According to the report, he'll reunite with Michael Frolik on Sunday, and we're projecting Micheal Ferland to be on the left wing to complete the third line. Backlund will not be a forgotten man in fantasy drafts after setting career highs in goals (21) and assists (26) last season to complement an impressive plus-10 rating.

Backhand (concussion) is expected to play Sunday against Winnipeg.
EDGE Analysis
Backlund sustained a concussion during the World Cup of Hockey but resumed skating Thursday and is now prepared to take the ice competitively. The 27-year-old center is coming off a career-best season, totaling 47 points in 82 games and with his speed and playmaking ability, he could be due to take another step forward in 2016-17.

Backlund is slated to resume skating Thursday, Wes Gilbertson of Postmedia reports.
EDGE Analysis
Backlund sustained a concussion while playing for Team Sweden at the World Cup of Hockey, so his return to the ice Thursday is a positive indication of the progress he's made in his recovery from that injury. The 27-year-old center likely won't be cleared for game action in time for Friday's preseason matchup with Vancounver, but may be in the lineup for Sunday's exhibition against the Jets. Either way, it appears as though the 2007 first-round pick is on track to be fully healthy ahead of the Flames' Oct. 12 regular-season opener against Edmonton.

Backlund (concussion) will head back to Calgary to rehab, Craig Custance of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Due to a concussion sustained during Tuesday's World Cup of Hockey matchup with Finland, Backlund will miss the rest of the tournament. The 27-year-old will now turn his attention to recovering in time for the Flames' season opener Oct. 12 against the Oilers. Coming off his best campaign to date (47 points in 82 games) there is plenty of excitement that the playmaking center has further improvement in store.
