Additionally, beating up on the lowly Canucks doesn't boost Backlund's value.

After a career-high 21 goals and 47 points last season, Backlund hasn't exploded out of the gate offensively this year (four goals and 11 points). Still, Backlund began 63.6 percent of his five-on-five shifts in the defensive zone before the game against Minnesota, so his offensive upside is hindered by his role.
