The 27-year-old has amassed six goals -- two shorthanded -- in three games, tacking on an assist for good measure. It's easily the center's most productive stretch of the season as he aims to redefine the meaning of finishing strong. Oh, not to mention Backlund now has a new career-high 21 tallies.

Backlund scored twice and had an assist in Saturday's win over the Oilers.

The three-point effort was just the first time in nine games Backlund had gotten on the scoresheet, giving him 17 goals and 42 points in 79 games. He's put up decent totals on the year, but the second-liner is just too inconsistent to be trusted in shallower formats. Considering he's streaky, Backlund could be worth getting in your lineup for these final three games after that multi-point effort.

Backlund assisted on the Flames' first two goals Wednesday, contributing majorly to a strong first-period start en route to a 4-1 win over the Jets.

That makes four straight games on the scoresheet and eight points in the last seven games for Backlund, who's now tied his career-high 39 points from two years ago. Despite missing morning skate, coach Bob Hartley indicated that Backlund will play in Wednesday's game against the Jets, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports.

Backlund was the presumed question mark following the Flames' emergency recall of Freddie Hamilton on Wednesday, but it appears it's actually Sean Monahan that could miss the contest. It's possible things will change if Monahan misses the evening's game, but Backlund currently set to center the club's second line alongside Kenny Agostino and Michael Frolik, and should be deployed normally in fantasy lineups.

Although he's not a dynamic fantasy player by any means, he's settled into a nice niche in Calgary where he can score 30-40 points a season on the third line.
