In the words of Ontario-born singer Amanda Marshall, Duchene's contributions are "Too Little, Too Late" to mean much for the Senators. But for fantasy owners, his renaissance is coming at the perfect time. Eight of the 14 points he's scored with Ottawa have come since the calendar turned to 2018, making him a great value play now that he appears to have returned to the form he showed in Colorado.

Duchene has openly wondered whether he might have been a disruption for the Senators, but his play in January could calm those fears. With six points in his past four contests, Duchene might finally have found his niche in Ottawa. If you can get him cheaply, it's not a bad idea to do so.

Between the 2009 third overall pick's illness and recent struggles, it's likely best to comb through your fantasy bench or waiver wire for viable alternatives while Duchene's this cold.

Duchene is under the weather, which puts his availability versus Chicago on Tuesday into question, Bruce Garrioch of the Ottawa Sun reports.

Duchene has racked up three goals and an assist in his last two outings, which makes the timing of his illness especially frustrating for fantasy owners. The center struggled in his first weeks as a member of the Senators and appears to be finally figuring it out, but now could miss time. If the veteran can't suit up, the Sens will need to promote a player from the minors to fill out the lineup.

This was just the second multi-point showing for Duchene as a Senator, and it improves him to only five goals and four assists through 25 games since being dealt to Ottawa. There is no questioning his talent, and this might prove to be the kick-start of an offensive surge for the 26-year-old center. However, it's probably wise to keep expectations in check, especially considering Duchene's scoring struggles date back to last season.

Duchene had twice as many points in 14 games with Colorado, and he's gone scoreless in 14 of his games with Ottawa. Something about Canada's capital isn't meshing well with him, and he's got to turn it around soon to show he's still worthy of anything more than a bench spot on your fantasy squad.

Duchene's familiarity with this foe from his Western Conference days seemed to benefit him, as the slumping center was Ottawa's only player to post multiple points in this one. His two points here matched Duchene's total from his first 12 games since coming over in a blockbuster trade with Colorado, and his lack of production has been a driving force behind Ottawa's recent stumbles.

Duchene scored his first goal and point as a member of the Senators in Saturday's 2-1 loss to the Islanders.

It took him eight games to find the scoresheet in Ottawa, other than to have registered a minus-10 rating in those eight contests. Duchene has struggled to fit into the Sens system, so hopefully this is the start of something beautiful.

This was game was held in Sweden as part of the NHL's Global Series, so between all the travel and the pressure of performing against the former employer with new teammates, it's not a big surprise that Duchene was held in check in his debut. Still, the skilled offensive pivot registered 428 points (178 goals, 250 assists) in 586 career contests with the Avalanche and a change of scenery figures to do him wonders over the long haul. Linemates Zack Smith and Mike Hoffman are terrific playmakers and it should be fun to watch them produce once they're more accustomed to Duchene's speed and tendencies within the attacking zone.
