Marc Staal scored the lone goal for the Rangers in a 4-1 loss to the Coyotes Thursday night.
Staal's power play goal tied the game in the second period but the goal didn't provide much momentum for the Rangers at Jobing.com Arena. Rick Nash and Derek Stepan assisted the goal.

Marc Staal had a team-high six shots on goal on Thursday.
Staal, who is attempting to return from an eye injury, wants to play a bigger role offensively in 2013-14. That's great news for fantasy owners, but we wouldn't count on Staal surpassing his career-high of 29 points just yet. It would be better to just monitor this situation for now and see what his ambitions materialize into come October.

Marc Staal (eye) was relieved by how he performed in Monday's exhibition contest.
"You can tell yourself all summer long that you feel good and are ready to go, but to actually go out there and feel comfortable, I'm really happy with it," Staal said. "There was no comparison to the way I felt when I came back for that one playoff game." He ended up logging 21:56 minutes in the contest. As Staal later put it, it's a "first step," but it's very encouraging after he suffered a serious eye injury when he was struck by the puck on March 5.

Marc Staal (eye) will play in Monday's preseason game.
Staal attempted to return from his eye injury on May 6, but he returned to the sidelines and hasn't played since. His eye is now permanently dilated, but he will attempt to deal with that by wearing a tinted visor. Staal previously stated that his "perception of what I see on the ice is way better than it was when I was trying to come back in the playoffs."

New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal stated his goal for exhibition games played in 2013: four.
That's more than a significant blueliner would normally play (according to Staal), but it's easy to see why Staal would prefer to iron out the kinks. This all sounds promising for his health situation, yet when you consider how much more valuable he is in reality than fantasy, it would be wise to tread lightly. Staal might not be worth drafting unless you're in a very deep league.

New York Rangers defenseman Marc Staal claims that he feels the best he's felt "in years."
"My brain kinda re-wired itself," Staal told New York Newsday's Steve Zipay. Staal said that the sensitivity to light is almost gone and insisted that he's not limited in any way. It remains to be seen if he can truly bounce back from that injury or if he'll be another "What if?" defenseman like Bryan Berard.

Marc Staal says he'll be ready for training camp even though his eye isn't quite back to normal.
"The eye is still not normal, but I feel back to normal," Staal told NHL.com Tuesday. "I don't see myself having any issues once camp starts. It'll be good to get into camp to get that timing and feeling back, but I'm excited for that to get that started, get that rolling." Staal, who participated at Canada's Olympic orientation camp, suffered an eye injury on March 5 and he played in just one regular-season contest and one playoff contest afterward. He said he's probably going to try a tinted visor to guard against light sensitivity. Staal is motivated this season to return to form and earn a spot on Canada's Olympic team.

Marc Staal is doing well and his eye is OK, according to teammate Dan Girardi.
Girardi was appearing a promotion event for the NHL's upcoming Stadium Series event at Yankee Stadium. Girardi said he spoke to Staal recently and apparently received good news. Staal said after the season that he believed his eye would improve over the offseason even if it isn't 100 percent ever again and this seems to support that. Still, it'll be a different animal once he's in training camp and the preseason.

Marc Staal still believes that his eye will improve even if it never gets back to being 100 percent.
"That's not to say it's not going to get a lot better so it's still improving," Staal said. "My belief is once everything settles down and I get comfortable with it, I'll never have to be asked about it again. I don't think it will be an issue." The Rangers defenseman suffered from blurry vision and altered depth perception after being hit near his right eye by the puck on March 5. It also left a small laceration in his eye, which would give him headaches and dizziness when he practiced and put pressure on it. However, he was quick to say that those symptoms were not the same as a concussion. He will look to continue to progress over the summer.

Marc Staal doesn't expect his injured eye to ever be 100%.
Staal was struck by a puck which caused a tear. Among other things, that's led to symptoms like dizziness and disorientation. All that being said, Staal still thinks he'll be able to return and maintain a high-level of play. He suffered the injury on March 5 and his attempt to return on May 6 only lasted one game.
