He earned an assist on a power-play goal by John Tavares and he sent the game into overtime with a power-play marker of his own late in the third period. Okposo reached 20 goals for the second time in his career and he has 49 points in 50 games this year. He also dropped the gloves with Flyers defenseman Braydon Coburn in the first frame. Brock Nelson had the team's other goal in the contest.

Kyle Okposo will be a game-time decision for Monday's game against Dallas. He was absent from the team to be with his wife, Danielle, who was due to give birth to the couple's first child. They went to the hospital Sunday night and were still there Monday morning. "We'll know a little bit more here in a couple of hours," coach Jack Capuano said after the morning skate. "We knew going in what time she was going to go in. We knew he'd be there all night. Now it just depends on this morning, if things work out well, knock on wood, he gets his proper rest and he can play tonight."

Kyle Okposo was disappointed to find out that people in charge of selecting Team USA didn't feel he would be as effective on the big ice surfaces that will be used in the Olympics. "That part of it's a little bit frustrating," Okposo said. "I think I've proven myself on the big sheet in college and I've had a lot of experience playing world championships with them." All the same, Okposo has put the Olympic snub behind him and netted the game-winner over Chicago on Thursday.

Okposo now has 14 goals and is attracting more and more attention as a possible addition to Team USA for the coming Olympics. Okposo also recorded his 23rd assist of the season on a goal by linemate John Tavares (14th), who returned to the Isles' lineup after a night off with a minor injury. The Isles trailed 3-0 early in the second period but Okposo et al came back nicely. Also producing goals in the comeback for the Isles were Cal Clutterbuck (fifth) and Thomas Hickey (second).

Islanders coach Jack Capuano thinks Kyle Okposo would be a great addition to Team USA. Okposo has broken out this season with 12 goals and 34 points in 39 games. He's been primarily playing alongside John Tavares and Thomas Vanek in 2013-14, but Capuano argued that isn't why he's taken a big step forward. "I think it's more of how Kyle himself is playing," Capuano said. "He went through some tough stretches there. But he's playing physical. He's grinding it out, he's puck protecting, he's shooting pucks. To me, it's about confidence. He's playing poised, he's playing relaxed. I think that's the biggest difference now. He's using his size and he's skating well."

Kyle Okoposo netted his 12th goal of the season in the Islanders' 3-0 victory over Detroit. Okoposo has 12 goals, 21 assists and 33 points this season through 38 games.
