Kyle Okposo registered three assists on Monday. The fact that Okposo is still producing after the John Tavares injury and Thomas Vanek trade is very encouraging. He has 26 goals and 65 points in 66 games and while we wouldn't be surprised if he takes a step back in 2014-15, we don't think the decline will be significant.

Kyle Okposo was the only goal scorer for the New York Islanders in a 6-1 loss to the New Jersey Devils on Saturday afternoon. Okposo set a new career high with his 25th marker of the season and he has a personal best of 60 points in 61 games. It may be tougher for him to produce without John Tavares, but his past chemistry with Josh Bailey should help ease the loss. Bailey and Thomas Vanek earned assists on the play.

Kyle Okposo is going to have a tough time maintaining his point-per-game pace without a bonafide center to play with on Isles' the top line. His favourite pal John Tavares is out long term after suffering a knee injury during the Olympics, while the Isles' second line center Frans Nielsen is still a few weeks away from returning from a broken hand. That makes third line rookie Brock Nielson the team's de facto number one center, and to make matters worse, trade talks are whirling around Okposo's other skilled linemate Thomas Vanek.

American forward Kyle Okposo is the only NHL player ranked top-ten in scoring that will not be participating in the Olympics. It would be very hard to leave Okposo off Team USA if the selection process started now, but roster deliberations began last August when Okposo was coming off a 24 point 2013 campaign in 48 games for the Isles. Although the 25 year-old has had a tremendous start to the season with 59 points in as many games, his torrid start alone could not merit a roster spot on the team.

Kyle Okposo is putting together quite the season. The rambunctious Minnesota-born right winger with the New York Islanders has already eclipsed his previous career high in points (52, set in the 2009-2010 season), with 58. "I think it's all in the mind,'' he says. "Physically, he's got the ability to be that power forward. He's got a great shot. His feet are moving. We have some players going through what Kyle went through in years past. You've gotta try to find your game. The only way to find it is to keep working, believe in yourself, have that confidence that if you play within the team structure you're going to have success as an individual. I think Kyle's done that."

Okposo has been solid all year, scoring 21 goals and 52 points in 52 games on the Isles' top line.

Kyle Okposo scored a goal in the Islanders' 6-4 loss on Thursday. Okposo has now recorded at least a point in four straight games and six of his last seven contests. With 29 games left in the Islanders' campaign, Okposo has already tied his career-high of 52 points. Obviously, it's been a great season for Okposo, but playing on a line with John Tavares and Thomas Vanek has been a big part of his success.
