The Red Wings are one of five teams actively pursuing Okposo, a pending unrestricted free agent, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports, citing a league source.
EDGE Analysis
Wings general manager Ken Holland was able to trade Pavel Datsyuk's $7.5 million cap hit to the Coyotes during the first round of the NHL Draft on Friday night, thus giving him a golden opportunity to go after an elite forward on the open market come July 1. Of course, Detroit isn't the only team eyeing Okposo -- Winnipeg, St. Louis, Los Angeles, and Minnesota are also said to be in the mix as potential suitors. Remember, Okposo is just 28 years old and in the prime of his NHL career. He's dropped 184 points over the past three seasons, including a career-high 23 power-play tallies in 2015-16. Wherever he lands, Okposo should garner a fat new contract. Islanders general manager Garth Snow looks like a genius for getting him at an average annual value of $2.8 million five years ago.

Okposo is very likely to find a new home in free agency this summer, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
This should not come as a surprise to anyone as the Islanders and Okposo haven't had any contract talks since last year. General manager Garth Snow was quoted Friday as saying "Kyle's a great person. Wish him nothing but the best." This would seem to be a pretty clear indication that Okposo is as good as gone.

Okposo has a chance to test the open market as an unrestricted free agent this summer, but Islanders general manager Garth Snow wishes to retain him, Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Snow said he plans to retain Okposo, Frans Nielsen, and Matt Martin, a core group of veteran forwards, but will "leave no stone unturned" in his quest for a Stanley Cup win. Okposo had an annual cap hit of $2.8 million over the life of a 5-year deal, but he's due for a substantial raise as he was a consistent offensive producer and only fell behind superstar John Tavares in points during both the regular season and playoffs.

Okposo's power-play marker was the lone goal for the Islanders in Friday's 2-1 overtime loss to Tampa in Game 4.
EDGE Analysis
The 28-year-old winger continues to chug along, having now posted eight points in 10 games this postseason. Despite the near point-per-game total, Friday's goal snapped an eight-game goal drought for Okposo dating back to Game 1 against the Panthers, so it was nice to see him light the lamp. The Islanders have quite the hole to dig out of down 3-1 in the series, so look for Okposo -- in tandem with superstar John Tavares and the rest of their supporting cast -- to leave it all out on the ice when the puck drops on Game 5 on Sunday afternoon in Tampa.

Okposo registered a pair of assists and fired three shots on goal in Sunday's Game 3 win over the Panthers.
EDGE Analysis
The Islanders have a 2-1 series lead over the Panthers and Okposo has played a key role, recording a goal and five points thus far. Skating on the top line with John Tavares, the 28-year-old has built off another strong regular season and has come to play in the postseason.

Okposo found twine, tacking on an assist, two PIM and two hits in Thursday's 5-4 win over the Panthers in Game 1.
EDGE Analysis
Well-rested after sitting the season finale, Okposo notched his fourth multi-point outing of April to kick off the playoffs. It's safe to say the 27-year-old likes the smell of the postseason, as the winger seems poised to exceed last year's run of three points in seven games. If the top line of the Islanders continues to feast, Florida may be sent home early.

Okposo is among the Islanders slated to be rested Sunday against the Flyers.
EDGE Analysis
With the upcoming playoffs in mind, John Tavares, Johnny Boychuk, Frans Nielsen and Casey Cizikas will also sit Sunday, with Okposo's 2015-16 season thus ending with a 22/42/64 stat line through 79 games.

Okposo (personal) is listed as being in the lineup Saturday night against the Sabres.
EDGE Analysis
Okposo's availability for the last two games of the season has been up in the air since he's soon expected to welcome a baby into the world with his wife. It appears that he's good to go Saturday, but he'll be a risky play since the Isles have already locked up a playoff spot and aren't desperate for his services at the moment.

Okposo could be a healthy scratch for the games Saturday and/or Sunday, Arthur Staple of Newsday reports
EDGE Analysis
Danielle and Kyle Okposo are expecting their child to be born at pretty much anytime now and Kyle will be there for the birth. This means we may not know until game time as to whether or not Okposo will play Saturday versus the Sabres. The Isles are already sitting several regulars as they seem to be treating the game as more of a pre-season contest so they probably wouldn't mind Okposo getting a game or two off.

Okposo picked up a power-play assist and an empty-net assist in Thursday's 4-1 win over the Rangers.
EDGE Analysis
That's three consecutive two-point efforts for the winger, who's now tied his career high in assists with 42. Okposo's steady offensive contributions alongside John Tavares this year have been a big reason why he'll get to celebrate his 28th birthday next week with a return to the postseason.
