Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews is expected to miss Monday's scrimmage, much like he did today. On the bright side, he'll skate before that scrimmage, so it's not like he's totally on the shelf. Really, considering the mileage he's accrued and will probably pile up between next season and the Olympics, a little extra rest might be a bonus.

Jonathan Toews (lower body) probably won't be on the ice for Sunday's scrimmage, according to coach Joel Quenneville. However, Quennevile did say that Toews is feeling "much better."

Jonathan Toews missed Friday's scrimmage due to a lower-body injury. Toews still practiced on Friday and Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville said he was kept out of the scrimmage for precautionary reasons. "It's not serious," Quenneville explained. "We'll see how he is (Saturday) and maybe give him a couple of days off the ice. I think it was kind of bugging him before but he went through everything (Thursday) and (Friday) and felt not bad but we said, 'let's be smart about it.'" It's not surprising that the Blackhawks would err heavily on the side of caution in training camp.

The Blackhawks would like to be the first team since the Detroit Red Wings to win back-to-back Stanley Cups after capturing the title two times in the previous four seasons. It hasn't been done since the Wings accomplished the feat in 1997 and 1998, but the idea of doing it has captain Jonathan Toews motivated going into training camp. "It has happened to us twice now - (and) the talk is always going to be about repeating, he said. "It's a long way away. We want to put ourselves in a position come playoff time to be that team that can compete for it again. But we know with what happened last year there are a lot of pressures that play into that. We believe we can be that team that has a chance to (repeat)."

Jonathan Toews says it's "gold medal or bust" for Canada at the Sochi Games. Toews will be one of the top players on a star-studded Canadian squad that will be expected to repeat their gold-medal feat from 2008, which isn't lost on him. "Once you get to the Olympics you know that there's a vast majority of the Canadian population that are tuned in to watch every single one of their games," Toews said. "For us, we got to experience it first hand, the craziness of the Canadian fans, in Vancouver so you know that support is there so it's something you almost have to tune out and focus on the game and take it one shift at a time and try to play the right way to win the gold medal."

Jonathan Toews supports more testing for performance-enhancing drugs in the NHL. "I think guys that apologize and plead that they didn't know what they were doing, I think they know exactly what they're doing," said Toews on Sportsnet 590 The Fan. "So the more tests the better. It protects the guys that are being fair and are putting good things into their body. So I have no problem with (more testing)." He also "it would be naive to say that there's no one in the NHL that is trying to get the edge in that fashion." The NHL has drug testing and several of their top athletes have competed at the Olympics, but there are some people who believe that drug scandals for the league could occur eventually.

Chicago Blackhawks center and captain Jonathan Toews on Friday sold his three-bedroom, 32nd-floor condominium unit in Lakeshore East for $1.63 million. The sale lightens the real estate portfolio of the 25-year-old, two-time Stanley Cup winner. With the sale, Toews now owns just one property -- his two-bedroom condo unit on a higher floor in a different building in his same neighborhood, which he purchased last year for $2.05 million. The seven-room, 2,714-square-foot unit that Toews just sold is roughly the same size as the one he bought last year but with a different set of features. The unit he sold has 3-1/2 baths, Brazilian cherry floors, muted gray wall tones, floor-to-ceiling glass windows, views in all directions, crown moldings, power window coverings, closet built-ins, a master suite with a spa bath and a steam shower and an oversized kitchen with a pantry, stainless steel appliances and all-wood cabinets.

The Blackhawks' Stanley Cup parade will begin 10:30 a.m. local time on Friday. The parade route will begin at Washington and Des Plaines, heading east to Wabash St, with the post-parade rally being held at Hutchinson Field in Grant Park. "The City of Chicago is so proud of our Blackhawks, and we are looking forward to celebrating their championship with the best fans in the world," said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. "We also ask fans to enjoy the celebration responsibly by respecting the city and each other."

Chicago Blackhawks coach Joel Quenneville confirmed Jonathan Toews had his "bell rung" during Game 5 of the Stanley Cup final. Toews missed the entire third period Saturday night, but there never appeared any doubt he would play in what become the clinching game for Chicago on Monday. The Blackhawks captain, who was "flying" in pregame warmups according to teammates, scored the game's first goal and assisted on the game-tying one late in the third period. Despite all the criticism he received, fairly or unfairly, Toews is a Stanley Cup champion for the second time in four years.
