Bernier will field shots from host Carolina in Thursday's contest.
EDGE Analysis
Detroit's traditional starter, Jimmy Howard, sustained a minor back injury that rendered him a late scratch for Tuesday's game against the Flyers, and he's not quite ready to handle a full 60 minutes. Bernier will try to hold down the fort, but he's been shaky based on a 3-7-1 record, 3.32 GAA and .901 save percentage over 11 games since the calendar flipped to November. The veteran will see the league's 28th-best offense in his next start, but there inevitably will better options on a 12-game slate.

Bernier permitted three goals on 33 shots in Tuesday's 3-2 road loss to the Flyers.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier wasn't scheduled to start in this game, but No. 1 backstop Jimmy Howard sustained a back injury during warmups to render him unavailable. While the former was unable to nail down his first win in the last four games, Bernier at least matched the save percentage (0.909) of counterpart Carter Hart, who nabbed the victory in his NHL debut. Fantasy owners should take what they can get from Bernier since he rarely starts, though that could change depending on how bad Howard's latest injury turns out to be.

Bernier will be the road starter for Tuesday's game versus the Flyers, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Expected starter Jimmy Howard injured his back during warmups, causing the team to give the nod to Bernier.

Bernier will defend the road goal Saturday in a cross-conference clash with the Islanders, Andrew Gross of Newsday reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier, who's in his first season with the Wings, has had a heck of a time trying to plug pucks on the penalty kill. He's yielded seven goals on 38 shots for an egregious .816 shorthanded save percentage that stands as a career-worst mark in said category. Still, the upcoming matchup is about as even as it gets for Bernier, as the Wings and Isles both have 32 points in the Eastern Conference standings.

Bernier permitted five goals on 15 shots in Tuesday's 6-2 road loss to the Capitals.
EDGE Analysis
Making his third straight in a four-game stretch, Bernier only lasted for 30:06 before getting the ol' heave-ho in favor of traditional starter Jimmy Howard. Wings coach Jeff Blashill kept Bernier in goal even after Alex Ovechkin struck twice in a row, but the ensuing power-play tally from T.J. Oshie prompted the switch to Howard. Detroit's primary backup falls to 4-8-0 to go along with unsightly rate stats, including a 3.66 GAA and .884 save percentage. Only use Bernier if you're desperate for help in goal.

Bernier will defend the road net in Tuesday's game versus the Capitals, Tom Gulitti of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier gets the start in the second half of back-to-back games. The veteran netminder hasn't performed up to standards lately, winning just one of his last five starts and posting a .876 save percentage and 3.06 GAA in that span. Fantasy owners that choose to start Bernier will assume plenty of risk, as the Capitals rank third in the league with 3.62 goals per game.

Bernier will start in goal Saturday evening, taking on the Islanders at home, Helene St. James of the Detroit Free Press repots.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier getting set for his second consecutive start makes us wonder if there's something wrong with Detroit's No. 1 goalie Jimmy Howard. Wings coach Jeff Blashill rarely goes back to the same goalie he used in the previous game, especially when it concerns the traditional backup, but then again, Bernier did hang on for an overtime win over the mighty Maple Leafs on Thursday. At any rate, Bernier will be tasked with handling an Islanders club that owns an impressive conference record of 10-5-3.

Bernier made 27 saves in a 5-4 overtime win over the Maple Leafs on Thursday night.
EDGE Analysis
His teammates staked him to a 4-1 lead before the Leafs roared back to tie things up. Bernier will take the win -- his fourth of the season. But despite beating one of the league's best teams, he's just not fantasy worthy. Bernier's save percentage remains below .900.

Bernier led the Red Wings out to the ice for pregame warmups Thursday, Dana Wakiji of the Red Wings' official site reports. As a result, he'll draw the road start versus the Maple Leafs.
EDGE Analysis
The Maple Leafs were stacked with elite offensive producers to begin with, but now Bernier has the added pressure of solving William Nylander, who finally ended his contract holdout Saturday in one of the most highly anticipated hockey events of the 2018-19 season. It's a terrible on-paper matchup for the Canadian backstop, but with Toronto being one of Bernier's former teams, he should at least welcome the challenge that lies ahead and do his best behind a Detroit blue line that has been thinned out by injuries.

Bernier denied 27 of 28 shots in Sunday's 2-0 home loss to the Avalanche.
EDGE Analysis
Like most goalies this season, Bernier ran into trouble against Colorado's beastly top line that's comprised of Nathan MacKinnon, Mikko Rantanen and Gabriel Landeskog. While that exact trio factored into both goals in this one, the only goal that Bernier permitted was a five-hole power-play tally from Mackinnon with the Avalanche striking on the man advantage early in the second period. Bernier played quite well but counterpart Semyon Varlamov stood even taller en route to his first shutout of the season.
