Bernier played the first half of Thursday's preseason home game versus the Blackhawks, yielding two goals on 13 shots in his Red Wings debut.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier gave way to Patrik Rybar after recording 30:19 of crease time, though that was the plan all along. The Red Wings decided to sign both goalies this offseason, as Jared Coreau -- who's now in the Ducks system -- failed to seize a meaningful role in the Red and White, as evidenced by his bloated 4.26 GAA and correspondingly weak .867 save percentage over seven games as a second-year NHLer in 2017-18. Rybar is a Czech prospect but largely untested in North America, so he poses no threat to steal Bernier's job as the primary backup to Jimmy Howard.

Bernier will make his Red Wings debut Thursday, drawing a preseason start against the visiting Blackhawks, Dana Wakiji of the Red Wings' official site reports. He is to play the first half of the game before handing the reins to Patrik Rybar.
EDGE Analysis
The Red Wings featured No. 1 goalie Jimmy Howard and organizational depth goalie Harri Sateri in Wednesday's 3-2 overtime win over the Penguins, so now Bernier will get a chance to show fans of the Winged Wheel what he can bring to the table as the primary backup for the 2018-19 season. Bernier recorded a 19-13-3 record, 2.85 GAA and .913 save percentage for the Avalanche last year, but it's worth noting that he's moved from a team that made the playoffs to one that's starting to tap into the fountain of youth and searching for a new identity since Henrik Zetterberg, who served as team captain, has called it a career due to chronic back trouble.

Bernier's new three-year contract with the Red Wings is valued at $9 million, according to TSN.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier will draw $1 million less per season than former backup netminder Petr Mrazek made on a two-year deal with the Wings prior to his brief stint with the Flyers earlier this year.

Bernier will sign a three-year contract with the Red Wings on Sunday, John Shannon of Sportsnet reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier -- who played for the Avalanche in 2017-19 -- cannot officially put pen to paper on a new contract until Sunday, when the free-agency signing begins. Thanks to the proliferation of news routed through social media, there have been a number of leaks detailing which players are signing new deals and destinations are already known for many of them. As the new backup goalie in Motown behind Jimmy Howard, Bernier should draw anywhere from 25-to-35 starts, but we're only speculating at this point.

Bernier has been linked to the Red Wings amid trade rumors with the July 1 signing period looming, Pierre LeBrun of TSN reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier is a pending unrestricted free agent and the writing is on the wall that he'll end up with a new team since the Avalanche acquired Stanley Cup-winning goaltender Philipp Grubauer from the Capitals ahead of the 2018 NHL Entry Draft. Detroit is definitely in the market for a netminder since traditional starter Jimmy Howard is the only (non-prospect) Red Wing under contract with the Original Six club through the 2018-19 campaign. Bernier's career numbers include a 128-108-30 record, 2.67 GAA and .914 save percentage between stops in Los Angeles, Toronto, Anaheim and Colorado. There's been nothing to suggest that the lower-body injury that bothered him late in the 2017-18 campaign will linger.

Bernier wasn't able to return from a lower-body injury before Colorado was eliminated from the postseason by Nashville on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
Not much is known about the injury that's bothering Bernier, other than the fact that it forced him to miss Games 5 and 6 against Nashville. Bernier is set to become an unrestricted free agent July 1, and after posting a solid 19-13-3 record with a 2.85 GAA and .913 save percentage, will likely command serious interest from teams looking for a proven backup this offseason. Expect whichever team that ends up signing Bernier to provide an update on his condition as training camp for the 2018-19 campaign nears.

Bernier (lower body) won't suit up for Game 6 against Nashville on Sunday, per NHL.com.
EDGE Analysis
After Andrew Hammond shut down Nashville during Game 5 stopping 44 of 45 shots, it's hard to imagine head coach Jared Bednar giving Bernier the starting nod even if he was healthy. The 29-year-old hasn't had his best playoff performance, notching just a .883 save percentage through the four games he appeared in, but he could return as soon as Tuesday if Colorado forces a Game 7. As long as Bernier remains sidelined, Spencer Martin will likely continue to back up Hammond.

Bernier (lower body) will not be available for Friday's Game 5 against the Predators, Marc Moser of Altitude Sports 950 reports.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier exited Wednesday's contest with what coach Jared Bednar described as a nagging issue that finally worsened. Without him available for the contest Andrew "The Hamburglar" Hammond will receive the starting nod for the Avalanche while Spencer Martin remains on hand to serve as the backup as Colorado hopes to avoid elimination. A win would make Sunday the next opportunity for Bernier to rejoin the lineup.

Bernier stopped 23 of 26 shots before exiting with a lower body injury, failing to return in a 3-2 loss to Nashville in Game 4 on Wednesday, a result that left his team down 3-1 in the series.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier hasn't played particularly well, but in his defense, Nashville's attack has a way of making good goaltenders look bad. Still, the fact remains that he hasn't held the Preds under three goals in the series and only once has his save percentage topped .900. Even if he returns for Game 5, he's not likely to be at full strength, likely giving way to Andrew Hammond.

Bernier will not return to Wednesday's Game 4 against Nashville.
EDGE Analysis
Bernier was removed from the contest entering the third period in favor of Andrew Hammond with the Avalanche trailing 3-0. Hammond will control the crease the rest of the way and could be in line for a Game 5 start should Bernier's issue cost him additional time.
