Johan Hedberg will get the nod on Friday. This decision isn't surprising, given that Martin Brodeur allowed six goals on 27 shots on Wednesday. Additionally, the Devils are also scheduled to play on Saturday and the team hasn't asked Brodeur to play on back-to-back nights this season. As bizarre as it might feel, Hedberg has actually been the superior goaltender this season, and while the Devils are understandably reluctant to give up on their future Hall of Famer, Hedberg might start splitting playing time with Brodeur more evenly if Brodeur doesn't rebound soon.

Johan Hedberg made 30 saves on 33 shots against in a 4-2 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes Monday night. The Devils' coaching staff made the decision to start Johan Hedberg on Monday night because the Swedish goaltender had won his previous three starts. It is tough to place the blame for the loss squarely on the goalie, especially when he makes 30 saves. Nonetheless this loss will surely sting for Johan Hedberg.

Johan Hedberg allowed four goals on 36 shots in the Devils' 5-4 victory over the Tampa Lightning Monday night. Hedberg had a fantastic season with the Devils in 2010-11 and has been a dependable NHL backup goaltender for the last few years now. He has also clearly been the better goalie this season in New Jersey. However, Martin Brodeur is still around and should get the nod tomorrow against the Florida Panthers. Both goaltenders should be owned right now in 14-team leagues.

Peter DeBoer indicated that Johan Hedberg will receive the start Monday (vs. Tampa Bay) while Martin Brodeur is likely to get the nod on Tuesday (against Florida). Hedberg has clearly been the better goalie this season, but it's obvious that the team wants Brodeur to be the top guy. Brodeur started seven of eight games from Nov. 16 to Dec. 2, but they've been trading games lately. This situation isn't fantastic for fantasy owners, although Brodeur could be a nice bargain if he starts to show the consistency that helped him put together an obvious Hall of Fame career.

Johan Hedberg saved 16 of 19 shots in a 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets on Saturday. Hedberg spent four seasons with the Atlanta Thrashers before they moved to Winnipeg and his former team has not been kind to him. Last season, Hedberg had a decent 2.60 GAA, but terrible .889 save percentage in two games against Atlanta.

Johan Hedberg stopped all 23 Islanders shots in a 1-0 victory Friday. Hedberg earned his second shutout of the season and the 19th of his career. The Devils were originally expected to start Martin Brodeur on Saturday, but we wouldn't be surprised if Hedberg gets another start in acknowledgement of his strong performance. He now has a 2.24 GAA and .920 save percentage in 12 games this season.
