Jimmy Hayes scored his first goal as a Panther in Friday's 4-3 loss to Calgary. It was a bitter sweet night for Hayes who failed to score in the sixth round of the shootout leading to the loss. Hayes has a strong track record of success in the minors but has not yet been able to translate it into any success at the NHL level. Of course, until he was traded to Florida, he had limited opportunities with the powerful Blackhawks. It remains to be seen if Hayes will fare any better with the Cats. Watch him.

The Blackhawks have demoted Jimmy Hayes to Rockford of the AHL. He was a healthy scratch last Saturday and has only played in two of the Hawks' first three games. Hayes did not register a point in either contest. Brandon Pirri will get a chance to skate on Chicago's third line and may do very well keeping Hayes in Rockford for the foreseeable future.

"I'm excited about the ability to keep Bryan Bickell, and also at some point we have to open up some spots for some of these young players who have been pushing on the NHL. Whether it's Jimmy Hayes or Brandon Pirri or Ben Smith . or Jeremy Morin, those are four forwards right there who really deserve to be in the NHL, but they've been blocked out for a long time."
