Petry (leg) has been placed on injured reserve retroactive to Oct. 6, Pat Hickey of the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Petry will definitely miss the season opener Thursday in Buffalo, but could be ready to play Saturday in Ottawa. With Petry heading to IR, the Canadiens have opted to keep first-round draft pick Mikhail Sergachev on the roster. The 18-year-old will start Thursday, skating on pairing with Alexei Emelin.

Petry (leg) won't play in Montreal's first game of the year due to injury.
EDGE Analysis
After injuring his left knee in Thursday's preseason game, the 28-year-old defenseman's status was in question until head coach Michel Therrien confirmed he'd be out. Whether he'll be back for Saturday's game is up in the air, so it'll be something to monitor throughout the week.

Petry, who appeared to injure his left knee Thursday, will be evaluated Monday, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Canadiens haven't called it a knee injury yet, but that's how it looked when it happened Thursday. At this point, his status for the season opener in Buffalo next Thursday is unknown.

Petry will not play in Thursday's preseason game against Toronto due to an undisclosed injury, Dhiren Mahiban of The New York Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
It's unclear when Petry sustained the ailment but it appears the Canadiens are expecting his return sooner than later. Barring any significant news of a setback, it appears Petry's status for Opening Night does not appear to be in jeopardy.

Petry played on left side during Wednesday's practice as the Canadiens try to get the right-hand shot comfortable on his off side, Stu Cowan of the Montreal Gazette reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montreal head coach Michel Therrien hasn't ruled out Petry playing on the left side opposite Shea Weber on the team's top defensive pair. If Petry ends up on the top pair, that would mean an extra three or four minutes of ice time per game, which in theory leads to more opportunities for scoring. Therrien added that he's trying out various combinations at defense and hasn't committed to naming any pairings at this time.

Petry should be ready for training camp after saying he is "fully recovered" from sports hernia surgery, Sean Farrell of NHL.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Petry missed the tail-end of the 2015-16 campaign after sustaining a lower body injury that eventually resulted in him undergoing a sports hernia surgery on Mar. 9. Six months removed from going under the knife, the 28-year-old defenseman is back to full strength and should be a full participant in training camp. A mobile skater with a cannon of a shot, the former second-round pick is currently holding down a third line spot on defense and is looking to bounce back from a 2015-16 campaign in which he only played in 51 games.

Petry (lower body) underwent sports hernia surgery on Wednesday and will be out at least 12 weeks, Dhiren Mahiban of The Canadian Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Montreal originally stated that Petry was out for the regular season, but not necessarily the postseason, yet with a 12-week recovery time, only the deepest of playoff runs would allow the defenseman to return this season and even then he would have a lot of rust to shake off. The 28-year-old was on pace to set career highs and should offer solid fantasy value in the 2016-17 campaign.

Petry (lower body) will miss the rest of the Canadiens' regular season after under going sports hernia surgery, Arpon Basu of LNH.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Petry's ailment is another blow to the injury depleted Canadiens who also lost fellow defenseman Tom Gilbert (knee) for the year. The 28-year-old has missed the last seven contests and was in the midst of a scoring slump as he's netted a lone goal in his last 20 games. Montreal was clear that the blueliner was out for the balance of the regular season, so if they can make the playoffs there is a chance Petry could return to the lineup.

Petry (lower body) will not travel with the team for Wednesday's tilt against the Capitals.
EDGE Analysis
Petry has been held out since Feb. 7, but he's recently returned to practice so he could be nearing a return. The defenseman, who sits just two goals shy of matching a career-high, will next have the chance to slot back into the lineup Saturday against the Maple Leafs. Mark Barberio figures to continue filling in on the blueline in his stead.

Coach Michel Therrien said Monday that Petry (lower body) remains day-to-day, Arpon Basu of LNH.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Petry was spotted at Sunday's practice but there's no timetable for his return to game action. In fact, Petry still remains on the injured reserve and was joined by fellow defenseman Tom Gilbert (knee) on Monday who'll now miss the rest of the season. Despite the Canadiens desperately needing ample bodies on defense, it doesn't appear as if the organization will rush Petry back to the ice.
