Petry (lower body) will miss the rest of the Canadiens' regular season after under going sports hernia surgery, Arpon Basu of LNH.com reports.

Petry's ailment is another blow to the injury depleted Canadiens who also lost fellow defenseman Tom Gilbert (knee) for the year. The 28-year-old has missed the last seven contests and was in the midst of a scoring slump as he's netted a lone goal in his last 20 games. Montreal was clear that the blueliner was out for the balance of the regular season, so if they can make the playoffs there is a chance Petry could return to the lineup.
