Spezza registered a power-play assist in Tuesday's 4-1 road loss to the Senators.
EDGE Analysis
Some pundits believed Spezza was going to have his contract bought out by the Stars ahead of this season, but GM Jim Nill shot those rumors down back in June. So far, it seems like that was the right call, as Spezza has three power-play apples (four total) through five games. The second overall pick (Ottawa, 2001) once again looks like a useful fantasy option in the top six for a Stars team at 3-2-0 and sitting in the middle of the Central Division standings.

Spezza posted career-lows eight points and 18 helpers in 2017-18.
EDGE Analysis
Since entering the league in 2002, Spezza has racked up at least 50 points in every full season he's played. However, the 34-year-old pivot dropped to the third line this season, behind young talents Tyler Seguin and Radek Faksa. No longer surrounded by top-six forwards, Spezza's production dropped dramatically. The Ontario native will need to turn it around for his contract year in 2018-19, and he could be a hot deadline option if the Stars fall out of contention.

Spezza (back) took part in line rushes during pregame warmups, indicating he'll be in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Flyers, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spezza's return to action will bolster the Stars' depth up front, but fantasy owners may want to see how he performs following his three-game absence before slotting him back into their lineups, as he's been ice cold recently, tallying one assist in his last 19 contests. He'll occupy a bottom-six role against Philadelphia, skating with Jason Dickinson and Remi Elie on Dallas' fourth line.

Spezza (back) will be a game-time decision for Tuesday's home tilt against the Flyers, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Five days ago, reports surfaced about how Spezza wouldn't even be reevaluated for a span of two weeks, but evidently, those plans have changed and his health has improved. The playmaking pivot, who's enjoyed an illustrious career comprised of 887 points (323 goals, 564 assists) over 983 career contests, presumably will take pregame warmups to determine if he'll be good enough to play.

Spezza (back) won't even be reevaluated for two more weeks, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
At this rate, Spezza will be lucky to return by the end of the regular season, and the Stars have serious work to do in order to wind up in the playoffs. Fortunately for the team, forward Brett Ritchie (lower body) is set to return for Friday's home clash with the Bruins.

Spezza (back) won't be in the lineup for Tuesday's game against the Capitals, Mike Heika of The Dallas Morning News reports.
EDGE Analysis
Spezza has only tallied one assist in his last 19 games, so his absence shouldn't have much of an impact on the Stars' ability to produce offense against Washington. The veteran pivot will likely be reevaluated ahead of Friday's matchup with the Bruins.

Spezza notched an assist during a 3-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
The tally broke a 14 game pointless streak, which was Spezza's longest over the last two seasons. The 34-year-old also sits at just 25 points (seven goals, 18 assists) in 68 games, and is on pace to record the lowest points-per-game ratio of his career. It's unlikely that Spezza sees another slump of this length, but with him currently skating on the third line and averaging 12:38 of ice time since the New Year, it would be surprising to see Spezza start pouring in points this late in the season.

Spezza notched two assists in Saturday's 7-1 win over the Sabres.
EDGE Analysis
Spezza has responded with four points in his last three games after being deemed a healthy scratch by Stars head coach Ken Hitchcock on Monday against the Bruins. The recent surge gives the veteran center added value in daily leagues. If Spezza can sustain this output, combined with his continued usage on the power play, he will warrant more consideration across all formats.

Spezza scored two power-play goals during Tuesday's 4-2 win over Detroit.
EDGE Analysis
After watching Monday's overtime win against Boston from the press box, Spezza returned to the lineup and left his mark on Tuesday's win. Not only did he snap a 14-game goal drought, he also posted his first multi-point showing of the season. The veteran has the potential to be a solid secondary scorer for the Stars and fantasy owners, but until he begins to show more game-to-game consistency, it's difficult to recommend relying on him in the majority of settings.

Spezza will be back in the lineup for Tuesday's matchup in Detroit after serving as a healthy scratch Monday, Mark Stepneski of the Stars' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Monday's benching was likely in an effort to allow Spezza to clear his head considering he hasn't recorded a point in five games and hasn't found the back of the net himself since Dec. 9. The veteran pivot is still a contributor on the power play, as his six points and 2:04 of average ice time with the man advantage will attest, so we'll see if the one game in the press box was enough to revitalize him and get him back to his scoring ways.
