Jaromir Jagr registered an assist in his 1,400th game on Tuesday. It was Jagr's 1,011th assist, which puts him just five shy of Joe Sakic and 11th place on the NHL's all-time leaderboard. Jagr ranks eighth in NHL history with 1,694 points and would need just 29 more points this season to tie Mario Lemieux. Unfortunately, Jagr's 1,400th game wasn't pleasant for his team as they suffered a 4-1 loss to Columbus.

Veteran Jaromir Jagr helped the New Jersey Devils win their first game of the season Saturday night with a pair of assists in a 4-0 shutout of the visiting New York Rangers. Also grabbing two assists for New Jersey was Marek Zidlicky. Scoring goals for the Devils were Adam Henrique, Michael Ryder, Dainius Zubrus and Andrei Loktionov.

Jagr, as expected, continues to log big minutes on the power play, which he did Sunday with 7:01. He should be a decent source of goals, but be prepared to deal with the nights off for rest or bumps and bruises. Jagr has two goals and an assist this season. Elias and Jagr are obviously well past their prime, but if they stay healthy, they should both get 50-60 points.

Jagr had a tough pre-season as he had back and hip problems and perhaps the Devils are easing Jagr back into the lineup slowly as he is 41 years of age. He should pot around 20 goals and 45-50 points if he can remain healthy this season.

Although he was severely limited in training camp because of back/hip problems, Jagr has turned in some good shifts, Devils coach Pete DeBoer said. Jagr had 23 shifts for 15:40 of ice time in Pittsburgh Thursday and 18 shifts for 14:30 against the Islanders Friday. He had one shot on goal in each game.
