The 28-year-old netminder has a great opportunity to produce once again for fantasy owners Thursday as he'll be facing a Devils' squad that ranks second-to-last in goals scored (18).

After a mediocre first two starts in which he accumulated a .880 save percentage, Reimer came through with an excellent performance to get his first win of the season on Sunday. While expectations need to be tempted with Reimer considering his status as a backup to Roberto Luongo, it's encouraging to see him bounce back and pull out the win for his team.

Reimer will make just his third start of the season for the Panthers, looking to improve on two subpar outings thus far, albeit against Pittsburgh and Tampa Bay. Sunday's opponent (Detroit) is no cake walk either, having had their six-game winning streak snapped Saturday against Boston. However, they've averaged just a mediocre 2.78 goals per game this season.

Reimer allowed three goals on 22 shots during a loss to the Penguins on Tuesday.

EDGE Analysis

Reimer has lost consecutive starts to begin the season and saved just 44 of 50 shots (.880 save percentage). However, while he's unlikely to steal Roberto Luongo's No. 1 gig, Reimer has the ability to be a solid depth goaltender for fantasy rosters. He posted a .922 save percentage last season, after all. For now, it wouldn't hurt to be selective with his matchups, though.

Reimer will be in the crease for Florida on Tuesday, George Richards of the Miami Herald reports.

The 28-year-old lost his first start of the year in a shootout, but he'll get another crack at it against Pittsburgh. Roberto Luongo will get the majority of starts for the Panthers throughout the year, so Reimer starts will likely be few and far between.

It was a long shootout, but after Vince Trocheck bailed Reimer out in the third round, Lightning rookie Brayden Point beat him in the sixth. That's surely not how Reimer expected his season to start -- a couple months ago, we anticipated he would carry the load for at least a little while with Roberto Luongo coming back from hip surgery, but the Panthers' veteran starter made it back in time for Opening Night and has looked as strong as ever in the early going. Assuming he plays better moving forward, look for Reimer to make approximately 25 starts as Luongo's backup this season.

Through 215 career appearances, the former Maple Leaf has recorded a 2.79 GAA and .914 save percentage, numbers that were likely negatively impacted by mostly subpar squads over five-plus years in Toronto.

Reimer signed a five-year contract with the Panthers on Friday valued at $3.4 million per season, TSN's Darren Dreger reports.

Reimer was a trade deadline acquisition by the Sharks last February, though he only ended up playing in eight games for Team Teal during the regular season and was stuck in a backup role for the postseason run that went all the way up to the Stanley Cup Finals -- Reimer would work between the pipes for just one playoff game as the No. 2 option behind Martin Jones. Al Montoya, who served as a fine complement to Roberto Luongo in Florida last season, is currently looking for suitors on the open market, and we can see Reimer, with his career 2.31 GAA, serving in a similar role as the incumbent.

Reimer replaced starter Martin Jones midway through the second period of Saturday's game and ended up with six saves on seven shots in relief.

EDGE Analysis

The goal came on the power play. Reimer's last start came on April 5, some six weeks ago, but he didn't miss a beat when he went in. Martin Jones will be back in net next game.
