He wasn't as busy as Cory Schneider, who saw more prolonged pressure throughout the game. Saturday was Reimer's best outing in two weeks, but it will be hard for him to sustain this decent effort as a little-used backup. Expect more queasy outings.

Reimer didn't fare well between the pipes when starter Roberto Luongo went down with a hand injury, posting a 2-3-1 record, 3.97 GAA and .869 save percentage over a seven-game stretch that spilled into early November. However, Reimer's getting a chance to avenge those struggles for what promises to be a tough battle against the top team in the Metropolitan Division, which also ranks seventh in scoring (3.33 goals per game) and eighth on the power play at 21.6 percent.

Reimer was pulled Thursday against Columbus after giving up four goals on 19 shots.

Reimer just really hasn't been able to step up to the plate with starter Roberto Luongo (thumb) sidelined. This marks the second consecutive start the former Maple Leaf has been given the yank in the second period. In both outings, Reimer gave up at least four goals on less than 20 shots. It's hard to recommend him as a serviceable fantasy option right now considering his disastrous .890 save percentage and 4.00 GAA. Newcomer Antti Niemi has been a letdown in his relief appearances, so despite his lackluster play, Reimer is pretty much Florida's best bet right now.

Reimer will field pucks from the Blue Jackets in a home start Thursday, CBS Miami reports.

A goalie would likely never be successful in the NHL if he was to dwell too much on past dud performances. This certainly applies to Reimer after he allowed five goals on 19 shots before getting spooked out of his Halloween start and ultimately replaced by newcomer Antti Niemi. Columbus is averaging only 2.80 goals per game on the road this season compared to the Panthers' 4.67 rate in Florida -- so Reimer has a decent chance for redemption here.

Antti Niemi took the loss, so in settings where losses are penalized, Reimer owners at least dodged that bullet. The Lightning have been scoring in bunches all season, so this was definitely a daunting matchup and probably one that should have glued Reimer to your bench. With a 3-3-1 record, .898 save percentage and 3.69 GAA, he's tough to trust unless facing a weak opponent.

Reimer led the team onto the ice, and will get the nod for Monday's tilt with Tampa Bay.

EDGE Analysis

With Roberto Luongo (thumb) sidelined the last five games Reimer has stepped up and notched a .926 save percentage during that stretch, but has unfortunately only gone 2-2-1 during the contests. Regardless the 29-year-old is still showing he can handle a starter's workload if needed, but with a matchup against Tampa Bay who've tied for the most goals scored in the NHL thus far, it might be best to temper expectations at least for one game.

Reimer registered a 36-save 3-2 loss to the Wings on Saturday.

Optimus Reims has been thrust into the starter's role, what with Bobby Lou's hand injury. And Reimer has responded. He has a history of stepping into roles that would be otherwise unavailabe and this is no different. He signed as the back-up, but wants a starting role. And he's earning it.

The Panthers netted eight goals, but Reimer was still fairly busy, picking up his third win of the season. It's good to see him bounce back after giving up five goals in his last start against Montreal. Reimer is now the starter in Florida with Roberto Luongo (thumb) sidelined, so take full advantage. His .904 save percentage on the year doesn't jump off the page, but Reimer has turned in some strong performances of late and can be of value in various fantasy formats.

Reimer led the Panthers out on the ice for warmups Thursday, Eric Stephens of The Orange County Register reports. This means he'll be the home starter versus the Ducks.

This will be the third consecutive start for Reimer, as No. 1 puck plugger Roberto Luongo is expected to be held off game ice until next week due to a thumb injury. There are 11 games on Thursday's slate, so consider alternatives to Reimer if you're understandably skittish about deploying the 29-year-old who owns awful ratios this season -- including a 3.58 GAA and .903 save percentage through five games.

Reimer's team simply didn't look ready to compete against a miserable Canadiens club that came in with a minus-21 goal differential and no regulation victories. Montreal didn't break through against Reimer until 16:44 into the second period, but delivered a barrage of goals from there while out-shooting Florida 37-27 overall. Reimer and Roberto Luongo have been equally ineffective, as both goaltenders sport save percentages no better than .905 and GAAs over 3.50 in four starts apiece.
