McCabe (concussion) may resume playing with AHL Rochester next week, Rob Sanderson of FOX Sports 1280 reports. The concussion has kept McCabe out of commission for Rochester since March 4. The blueliner likely would have been in line to join the Sabres as a late-season call-up, but the long-term absence due to the head injury probably dashes those hopes.

McCabe suffered a possible concussion Wednesday in the AHL and there is no timetable for his return, reports the Olean Times Herald. McCabe played in two games for the Sabres before being demoted. With Mark Pysyk sitting out with a heart-related issue, McCabe was first in line for a potential call-up, but now it looks like Chad Ruhwedel will be at the top of the list. McCabe will continue to be evaluated.

McCabe suffered an upper-body injury in his last game with AHL Rochester and will be reevaluated Thursday, Rob Sanderson of FOX Sports 1280 reports. McCabe reportedly hit his head on the ice during Wednesday's game, with Rochester coach Chadd Cassidy indicating the injury is "pretty serious." With Mark Pysyk off the ice after requiring hospitalization last weekend upon collapsing during a pickup basketball game, McCabe seemed to be the next defenseman in line for a promotion to the Sabres, but his injury might spell an end to those hopes.

McCabe, who played two games for the Sabres following a recent call-up, was sent back to Rochester of the AHL on Wednesday, The Buffalo News reports. If Tyson Strachan returns to health, the promising McCabe may have to wait a bit for his next stint, as fellow call-up Mark Pysyk seems to be more NHL ready right now. McCabe recorded four hits, two shots, and a blocked shot in his recent stint.

McCabe says his confidence and consistency has improved significantly, reports The Buffalo News. McCabe played just 10 minutes in his season debut against Nashville, but finished the night with three hits and a blocked shot. After a slow start to his pro career after three seasons at Wisconsin, McCabe has emerged as one of AHL Rochester's best defenseman, and though head coach Ted Nolan doesn't think McCabe is ready for a full-time NHL role, understands that McCabe has immense potential and will need more seasoning in the minors. Between McCabe and Mark Pysyk, who was called up at the same time, Pysyk offers more upside in the short-term, but long-term McCabe is considered to have more game-breaking skill. Look for both players to play more with Nikita Zadorov (suspension), Mike Weber (upper body) and Tyson Strachan (illness) unavailable.

McCabe has been recalled to the NHL, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports.Buffalo is dealing with some injury and suspension problems, so McCabe will add depth to the team until they can get their regular players back on the ice.

McCabe, in Rochester on a conditioning assignment, hasn't played very well, reports The Buffalo News. McCabe and Mark Pysyk were assigned to Rochester after recovering from their respective injuries but both players have struggled since. McCabe in particular had a really strong training camp, and had it not been for Nikita Zadorov blocking his path, McCabe may have made the team. There's no hurry with McCabe, one of Buffalo's top prospects, and he won't be fantasy relevant yet for a few more years.

McCabe (undisclosed) was assigned to AHL Rochester on Thursday. Fellow injured blueliner Mark Pysyk was also sent to Rochester on Thursday, but it's not clear if both will be there to stay, or just as part of a rehab assignment. The Sabres have received miserable play from their defense in the early stages of the season, and the addition of McCabe might represent an upgrade over one of their incumbent defensemen.

Coach Ted Nolan said Thursday that McCabe (undisclosed) is close to playing, John Vogl of the Buffalo News reports. General manager Tim Murray is set to meet with McCabe later Thursday to get a clearer idea of how he's coming along from his injury, but all indications from the Sabres are that he could be ready to go at some point next week. The Buffalo blue line has been a mess in the early stages of the season, so it wouldn't be especially surprising if McCabe claimed a regular spot in the lineup immediately upon his activation.

Coach Ted Nolan said Wednesday that McCabe (undisclosed) would be out for about "a week or so." It was expected that McCabe was just receiving a maintenance day when he was held out of practice earlier this week, but Nolan acknowledged that the blue liner had been dealing with a nagging injury that wasn't showing much improvement. With a week off the ice, the hope is McCabe will be able to put the issue behind him. If that ends up materializing, he could reclaim a spot on the team's third defensive pairing.
