He'll look to secure a second straight win Wednesday against a Penguins club that has been surprisingly poor offensively this season, averaging just 2.20 goals scored per game, fourth worst in the NHL.

Allen turned away 24 of 25 shots in Monday's 2-1 win over Buffalo.

Allen goes back to the win column after a tough overtime loss to Detroit last Saturday in which he allowed four goals on 32 shots. The 25-year-old is playing with determination this season and it has translated in a 1.98 GAA and .932 save percentage thus far.

In his first 10 games, Allen put up a ridiculous 1.53 goals against average and .950 save percentage while going 7-3-0, but he has really struggled in the five games since (3.19 goals against average, .878 save percentage). However, Allen did have one exceptional performance during this span, coming November 19 against the very Buffalo Sabres he will take on Monday. Buffalo is a young team that struggles to score (2.10 goals per game) and Allen should be able to turn in another solid performance.

On Saturday night, Allen allowed three regulation goals to the Red Wings and faltered in overtime.

EDGE Analysis

Blues defenseman Colton Parayko picked up an interference penalty against Mike Green in overtime, which gave the Wings an extra skater and ultimately the win on a Teemu Pulkkinen slapshot goal. As for Allen, it was his first overtime loss and now his record stands at 9-4-1 on the season.

Allen posted another solid performance Thursday night, stopping 32 of the 34 shots he faced to earn his ninth win of the season. He ranks among the top five in both save percentage (.935) and GAA (1.91) among qualified netminders, and will look to add a third win to his current streak Saturday against a Red Wings club averaging just 2.21 goals per game.

Allen will be the starter between the pipes for Thursday night's contest against the Sabres, Andrew Allsman of KMOV.com reports.

Allen has been playing quite well this season, and his 8-4-0 record and superb goalie statistics (1.91 GAA and a .934 save percentage) reflects that. Allen has a great matchup against Buffalo, as the Sabres have slogged their way to an 8-9-1 start and are currently just one point ahead of last place Toronto in the Atlantic Division. Allen earned a shutout win in his lone career regular season matchup with Buffalo.

Allen stopped 16 of 18 shots in Monday's win over the Jets.

EDGE Analysis

He wasn't heavily tested in this one, but Allen was perfect outside of a 40 second stretch at the beginning of the second period in which he surrendered both goals. He had a couple of shaky outings before Monday, so it was encouraging for the 25-year-old to get back into the win column even if the performance hurt his rate stats (.934 save percentage, 1.91 GAA).

Allen will start in net Monday against the Jets, Jeremy Rutherford of the St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports.

Allen has had a rough couple of previous outings the last two times out, allowing three goals in each of the past two contests. He'll look to get things back on track Monday, facing a Jets club that was blanked by the Predators on Saturday.

Allen has come back down to earth -- allowing three goals in each of his last two appearances -- after allowing a very stingy six goals in the previous seven games combined. Per the norm in recent seasons in St. Louis, Allen's misstep will likely open the door for veteran Brian Elliott to restake his claim for the starter's gig, as it's no secret head coach Ken Hitchcock likes to roll with the hot hand in the crease. To date, Allen has posted a 7-4-0 record with three shutouts, a .936 save percentage and 1.91 GAA -- numbers that are far superior to Elliott's .887 save percentage and 2.80 GAA through seven appearances.
