Eddie Lack, backup to Roberto Luongo, steered aside 45 shots in the Vancouver Canucks' 4-3 loss to the Ducks in Anaheim Sunday night.
Luongo was a relatively late scratch in the game because of an upper-body injury he suffered on Saturday night. Lack excelled in this one but gave up the winning goal to Corey Perry with only two seconds left in overtime.

With starting Vancouver goaltender Roberto Luongo sidelined by a suspected groin strain for seven to 10 days, Eddie Lack becomes the the Canucks' puck-stopper, and he's confident.
"I've always thought I was capable of playing in this league and I've worked hard for a long time to get here," Lack, 25, said as the Canucks returned to practice following their four-day Christmas break. "Roberto is our No. 1 but now that he's out, it's time for me to step up. I'm just trying to take it day-by-day and not think too much about where I've been. I've only been thinking about what I can do to get better." Canucks coach John Tortorella says he has confidence in Lack, as well. "We have total confidence in his play. So he steps in. I'm not sure what's going to happen with Roberto but Lacker plays Sunday and we'll see where we go from there. Obviously he has given us flexibility in certain situations and picked up points for us, which was very important in the first half of the year." The Canucks, on a 9-1-1 run, have improved dramatically on defense since early season. They have allowed 17 goals in their last 11 outings.

Eddie Lack is projected to get the nod Monday night when the Canucks host Carolina.
Roberto Luongo has started Vancouver's last three games and his performances over that span earned him the NHL's third star of the week. Lack will start so that Luongo doesn't have to play three games in four nights. Lack's last outing came on Dec. 1 when he had 29 stops in a 3-2 win over the Hurricanes.
