Lack remains second fiddle in net to Cam Ward, and Tuesday will mark his first start of the season in the third game of the campaign. However, Ward wasn't overly impressive in his first two starts (.864 save percentage, 3.08 GA), so it's possible that Lack could scratch out more playing time if he has some strong showings in net.

Lack and the Hurricanes have agreed on a two-year contract extension that will pay the goalie $2.5 million next season and $3 million in 2017-18, Chip Alexander of the Raleigh News & Observer reports.

Lack landed in Carolina this past summer via a trade with Vancouver that involved a pair of draft picks. Cam Ward, the team's veteran goalie, is in the final year of a huge contract worth $6.8 million, so there is reason to believe that Lack will often give way to Ward this season. Of course, Lack could find his way into more regular-season action if he can pick up where he left off with Vancouver last season, when he posted an 18-13-4 record with a 2.45 GAA and .921 save percentage.

Lack turned away 31 of the 34 shots he faced in Wednesday's preseason win over the Capitals.

Although Cam Ward is expected to open the season as Carolina's starting goaltender, Lack could make a push for the job if he continues to play well and Ward begins to struggle. In all likelihood, the team will opt to open the season with a goaltender by committee approach, and wait to see if Ward or Lack is ultimately able to establish himself as the clear cut No. 1 option.

Lack started in goal and denied all 22 shots that he saw before giving way to Drew MacIntyre, who allowed two goals, in Monday's loss to the Capitals.

The Hurricanes' brass must love what they saw from Lack in this one. After trading Anton Khudobin in the offseason, the team sorely needed a complement to Cam Ward between the pipes and it appears they received a promising player in Lack, who posted a 2.43 goals-against average and .917 save percentage in the past two seasons with the Canucks.

Lack has been traded to Carolina for a 2015 third-round pick and a 2016 seventh-rounder, Chris Johnston of Sportsnet reports. Barring another move, Lack will compete with Cam Ward for Carolina's spot in goal next season. He'll leave a two-season career at Vancouver where he allowed 2.43 goals per game with .917 save percentage in 82 games, going a total of 34-30.

Lack will be passed over for the start in Thursday's Game 5 against the Flames in favor of Ryan Miller, Jim Jamieson of the Vancouver Province reports. Miller's long-term absence due to a knee issue resulted in Lack opening the first round as the Canucks' lead goaltender, but he squandered his job security after going 1-3 with a 3.03 GAA and .886 save percentage over the first four games of the series. With the Canucks facing elimination the rest of the way, look for Miller to receive any subsequent starts if the team is able to come away with the Game 5 win in Vancouver.

Lack lasted just one period in Game 4 on Tuesday against the Flames, giving up three goals on seven shots before being pulled. That's consecutive bad games for Lack, made worse by Ryan Miller's perfect 15 saves on 15 shots in relief. The upstart Flames are now ahead 3-1 in the series, and it's likely that Miller draws the start in Game 5 back in Vancouver.

Lack will be between the pipes for Tuesday's Game 4 against the Flames, the Vancouver Province's Ben Kuzma reports. Lack gave up four goals in Sunday's Game 3 to put the Canucks in a 2-1 series hole, but after the netminder was solid in the first two contests, he still appears to have the backing of coach Willie Desjardins. He'll need some more offensive support from the struggling top line to even the series Tuesday, while also ensuring that Desjardins won't be tempted to turn to Ryan Miller if the Canucks end up facing elimination in their next game.

Lack gave up four goals on 28 shots in Sunday's Game 3 loss to the Flames. While it wasn't the best night for Lack, the 27-year-old was excellent in Games 1 and 2 and is a huge reason why Vancouver is even in the playoffs in the first place. While it's possible the team decides to turn to veteran Ryan Miller, expect Lack, who recorded a .921 save percentage in the regular season, to get the call once again Tuesday in Game 4.

Lack is slated to start Sunday's game against the Flames, the Canucks' official site reports. Lack stopped 22 of 23 shots in Friday's win over Calgary to help the Canucks even their playoff series with the Flames at 1-1. Through the first two games overall, Lack has stopped 50 of the 53 Calgary shots that he has faced.
