Despite only one assist in 10 games this season, coach Terry Murray thinks that Dustin Penner is playing better of late.
"I'd like to see him have the puck on his stick for longer periods of time, to get his speed going, carry the puck through the middle of the ice and challenge defensemen more," Murray said. "He's got size and strength, and he can take the puck to the net. I'm starting to see better skating in the last few days, in the games and in the practice, so I'm hoping that that's where he's going to get to, with his game. The other part of it, with a player like Dustin, he's a goal scorer. He's got great hands. He's got an incredible shot, and we need to find a way to get the puck to him at the right times, to be able to finish." It looks like you have to stay patient with Penner at this time and hope that Murray is right

Dustin Penner has been bumped to the third line after playing alongside Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams in his last two contests.
Penner had just one shot on goal and a minus-two rating on the first line, so this demotion isn't much of a surprise. Right now, you're better off ignoring the fact that Penner had 32 goals and 63 points in 82 games in 2009-10. He's not a good bet right now.

Dustin Penner is being bothered by a contusion on his knee.
Penner sustained the injury during Saturday's game in Philadelphia, but the Kings don't seem particularly concerned about it. However, Penner left Monday's practice after only 20 minutes because it was bothering him, so he's going to have it investigated further. "Obviously it's bothering him," coach Terry Murray said. "He's been reassured by the doctor in Philadelphia and the training staff here, but something is on his mind so we sent him to our team doctor." Consider him questionable for Tuesday's game.

Dustin Penner (lower body) will not be in the Los Angeles lineup for their opener on Friday.
Penner left the ice on Monday because he was not feeling well. He will start with Anze Kopitar and Justin Williams when he returns to action. Expect a big year from the former Oiler who struggled when he was traded to Los Angeles in February. He is worth selecting late in a lot of pools as he also picks up penalty minutes. Look for a 45-50 point season this year.

Penner might not be available for Tuesday's exhibition game as a result. Consider him day-to-day for now.

Dustin Penner entered camp this season with a lower weight and more in shape.
Penner has had trouble with his weight in the past but it appears those days are over. He entered camp much lighter and with a lower BMI. He stands to benefit greatly by moving quicker and lighter on his feet. We feel a nice resurgence is on its way for Penner.
