Dustin Brown did not touch the Clarence Campbell Bowl, which is awarded to the Western Conference champion, after the Kings eliminated the Phoenix Coyotes on Tuesday night.
The hockey superstition does change from team-to-team and situation-to-situation, but in most cases it is because the captain doesn't want to be in contact with any trophy that isn't the Stanley Cup. The Kings will face the winner of the New Jersey Devils-New York Rangers series for the NHL's biggest prize.

Los Angeles Kings captain Dustin Brown enraged the Phoenix Coyotes because of his knee-to-knee hit on Michal Rozsival.
The Coyotes want him to face a suspension, but it would be surprising if the NHL punished him too harshly. Either way, it was quite a sight to see when the Coyotes begrudgingly shook his hand after the 4-3 OT win that ended the series.

Dustin Brown leads the Kings with 62 hits.
Brown has been amazing in the Kings playoff run, but his contributions can be measured in more ways than just goals and assists. Brown plays a very physical game, but he manages to do so without spending a ton of time in the sin bin. Brown recorded 593 hits over the past two seasons, while spending 120 minutes in the sin bin over 164 games.

Dustin Brown appears to be alright despite the rough treatment he received in Game 2 on Tuesday night.
He was pushed from behind into the boards by Phoenix's Martin Hanzal, which earned him a one-game suspension, and he received a hefty slash from goaltender Mike Smith to the back of his leg. Brown was asked which play hurt more and he said, "Probably the hit. The slash, my leg went numb. ... You're used to getting slashed every day." Brown stayed in the game and is expected to play in Game 3 on Thursday night. He leads the team with seven goals and seven assists in 11 playoff contests.

Dustin Brown leads the Kings with seven goals and 13 points in 10 playoff games.
"You know what, the playoffs have been something for him, that he's taken the next step," Kings coach Darryl Sutter said. "That's the key to it. Right now, he's a playoff-type player because the game, it's the way you have to play at playoff times. You think about the intensity, the controlled emotion. Probably.he'd like to have the penalty back in the first period, and he certainly covered his butt good by scoring the game winner." Brown has been a big reason the Kings have won nine of their first 10 postseason contests. Right now most of their team is clicking and it's hard to see them slowing down.

Los Angeles captain Dustin Brown thinks the Kings have an edge over the Phoenix Coyotes in the Western Conference final because they are more aggressive.
"I think we're probably more of an aggressive team than they are," Brown said. "You look at systems and Xs and O's - we're similar in our personnel. Good goaltending. Good defense. I think we're probably a little more aggressive. On their PK [penalty kill], they tend to back in. They'll sit back a little bit." The Kings and Coyotes open their seven-game series in LA tonight.

The Los Angeles Kings are trying to stay sharp as they have been off since Sunday.
The Kings swept the Blues in the Western Conference semi-finals and now are off until this Sunday as they open their Western Conference final in Phoenix. "It's just (about) staying in your routine," Kings captain Dustin Brown said. "Every player has different things that they do. We've got four or five days of practice, a little extra time. It's important to stay in the gym and keep your body going. From a mental standpoint, it's just doing a routine, staying in your routine, because I think most athletes are creatures of habit."

After sweeping the Blues in their second-round series, the Kings now get a some valuable time off.
Even though Phoenix defeated the Predators on Monday night to move into the Western Conference finals, the series can't begin until the Eastern Conference finals are set, which could still take until at least Wednesday. Further, players like Dustin Brown, who has 39 hits and 11 points in the playoffs, receive a mental and physical break."Just to have the day to not really think about hockey or about the type of pressure that comes from being in the playoffs, it's nice just to get away from the game for a day or two and let your mind reset."
