Schlemko said Tuesday that he battled a groin injury during the playoffs, Pat Steinberg of Sportsnet 960 The Fan reports. The groin issue isn't expected to hamper Schlemko throughout the offseason, putting him on rather stable ground as he enters unrestricted free agency. The 28-year-old profiles as a sixth or seventh defenseman for most clubs, so he likely won't be in line for much more than a one- or two-year contract with any team that might have interest in him.

Schlemko recorded an assist in Sunday's Game 3 win over the Canucks. Schlemko was a healthy scratch for much of the season across stints with the Coyotes, Stars, and Flames, but season-ending injuries to Mark Giordano (biceps) and Ladislav Smid (neck) have forced him into a regular role during the playoffs. Even so, due to the light minutes Schlemko receives on the Flames' third pairing, he's far from an ideal play in daily formats. He's produced five points in his 47 games this season.

In his first game with the Flames, Schlemko netted a highlight-reel shootout goal to clinch a 4-3 win over the Bruins on Thursday. As a defenseman with one shootout attempt in the NHL, not many were expecting the beautiful move Schlemko put on Tuukka Rask to clinch the victory. The blue-liner only had four points in 26 games with the Stars, but is off to a good start in Calgary.
