Backes picked up his 17th goal of the year Thursday in a shootout win over Carolina to extend his point streak to nine games. He took three shots and added five hits and three blocks on the night.
Backes has eight goals and 16 points during his streak, which is just outstanding. That pace over a full season would produce 145 points. He has accumulated nearly half of his season point total during the past month as he rips up the league.

Backes recorded an assist and four shots on goal in Thursday's win over the Predators to improve his point streak to eight games. He's provided a goal or assist in 10 of his last 11 contests.
More impressive than the streak itself is how many of those games have been multi-point efforts (five). It's added up to seven goals, eight assists, and a plus-11 rating during that stretch. It's safe to say that kind of production plays in any league.

Backes picked up two assists Saturday in a win over Toronto to extend his current point streak to six games and 13 points (seven goals, six assists).
Wow -- he'd stressed his owners with 19 points in his first 38 games. But has turned up the heat to broil in the last half-dozen outings. Enjoy the run.

Backes helped the Blues salvage a point Thursday, scoring a third-period power-play goal that sparked a comeback to push the game to overtime.
All Backes has done over the last five games is score seven goals and tack on four assists. No big deal. This one was actually a step down for him, considering that Backes had collected multiple points in each of the last four. Just one point? Don't hold out on us, David.

Backes rattled off his fourth consecutive multi-point effort Tuesday against Edmonton, picking up a goal and an assist to go with a plus-2 rating and six hits.
He also won nine of 12 faceoffs, which is nice. But what's really sharp is that total of 10 points -- including six goals! -- in his last four games. Backes and the Blues look unstoppable right now.

Backed picked up two helpers Saturday in a shootout win over Carolina. It was his third multi-point effort in a row and he was plus-1 with two PIM, three shots, four hits, and a blocked shot in the stat sheet stuffing effort.
The whole Blues offense is clicking right now and Backes is eating well as a result with eight points in his las three games. The hot streak has helped his point total recover from a slow start and brings him up to 27 points in 41 games. That's probably where owners expected him to be at this point, only with a smoother production curve, and he should top 50 points again, as usual.

Backes followed up his four-goal Tuesday by potting another goal and adding an assist in Thursday's win over the Sharks.
Sure, the goal in particular was meaningless, being the final tally in a 7-2 shellacking, but that's still six points in two games for Backes, who's suddenly heating up in a big way after a rough start to the year offensively.

Backes scored four consecutive goals == the first two on the power play -- to account for much of the damage in Tuesday's 6-0 rout of Arizona.
Now that's a supernatural hat trick. Backes has been having a slow year, but games like this can really jump-start things. He's been looking better in general lately, having now tallied seven points over the course of a four-game road trip. We all know Backes -- a two-time 30-goal man -- is capable of taking his game to another level, but the fact remains that Tuesday accounts for nearly a third of his season goal total. Let's see some more, huh, David?

Backes grabbed an assist, fired three shots on net and finished with a plus-1 rating in Friday's 4-3 loss to the Ducks.
Captain Backes now has four points over his last four games and 19 in 37 contests this season. Owners are hoping that his seven points, 28 SOG and 15 PIM in his last 11 games are a sign that the 30-year-old power forward is awaking from a frustrating slumber this year, as his nine goals and minus-5 rating are well off the mark of his 27-goal, plus-14 ledger from 2013-14.

Backes assisted on both St. Louis goals and went minus-1 in Tuesday's loss to the Predators.
He won 10 of 15 faceoffs and picked up the primary assists on tallies by Chris Butler and T.J. Oshie, but was also on the ice for all three Nashville goals. Backes' stats continue to lag, as he has just 18 points and a minus-6 rating in 36 games, but the return of Brian Elliott to the Blues' net should help the whole team undergo a plus-minus correction. The missing offense is a bigger question mark, as the Blues' top-line center simply hasn't been able to find his stride all year long.
