Daniel Carcillo's recently signed two-year extension will give him $825,000 per season. That's just a mild raise on the $775,000 the Blackhawks are paying him this season. A left knee injury has limited Carcillo to 28 games in 2011-12, but when he's healthy next season, he will provide the team with a physical presence and some secondary scoring.

Daniel Carcillo has signed a two-year extension with the Chicago Blackhawks. The financial terms of the deal were not immediately available. Carcillo is out for the remainder of the season after undergoing left knee surgery on Jan. 17. He's primarily known for his toughness, but Chicago showed a willingness to let him play on one of their top two lines. He had 11 points and 82 penalty minutes in 28 games this season.

Daniel Carcillo had surgery on his left knee Tuesday. "Daniel Carcillo underwent successful left knee anterior cruciate ligament surgery today," Blackhawks team physican Dr. Michael Terry said. "The procedure went very well and he will begin rehabilitation this afternoon. We anticipate a full recovery with him returning to competitive hockey in six months." That means Carcillo will miss the remainder of the regular season and playoffs, as anticipated. He should be fine for training camp, but first he'll have to sign a new contract as he's scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

Daniel Carcillo will miss the remainder of the season and playoffs due to an injured ACL in his right knee. Carcillo will have surgery to repair the damage. If there's a silver lining, it's that he should be fine for the start of the 2012-13 season. He suffered the injury because of how Edmonton's Tom Gilbert fell after being hit hard by Carcillo. Incidentally, Carcillo received a seven-game suspension for his actions and would have been eligible to return on January 18th.

Daniel Carcillo may require surgery to repair the damage done to his leg on Jan. 2. He is currently serving a seven-game suspension as well, as he and Edmonton's Tom Gilbert were hurt on the same play.

The NHL has suspended Daniel Carcillo for seven games. Carcillo is being punished for hiting Edmonton's Tom Gilbert from behind. "This is a 50-50 puck that either player can win," NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan said. "In such cases a reasonable amount of physical contact is permissible as the players jostle for position. However, on this play Carcillo slows up and gets behind Gilbert just as Gilbert begins slowing down and bracing himself for some contact, Carcillo explodes into him, causing a violent crash into the boards. This is a clear violation of the boarding rule." Carcillo hurt his knee on the play and it's possible that he'd be unavailable for the duration of this suspension anyways. However, if Carcillo's knee injury isn't severe, then he might return when the suspension ends on January 18th.

The knee injury Daniel Carcillo suffered on Monday might prove to be serious. Carcillo hurt himself while hitting Edmonton's Tom Gilbert from behind. Carcillo has already been suspended indefinitely, but that might prove to be the lesser concern. "We're still talking about the options with him there," coach Joel Quenneville said. "He had some tests done [Tuesday] and we're still evaluating him." At this stage, Quenneville wasn't willing to rule out the possibility that Carcillo would need surgery.

The NHL has suspended Daniel Carcillo indefinitely for his hit from behind to the Oilers Tom Gilbert. Both players were injured on the play so it should be interesting to see what happens. Carcillo suffered an apparent knee injury and will likely need to get healthy before the NHL will start its suspension. Stay tuned.

Daniel Carcillo suffered an apparent knee injury on Monday in the second period and did not return. One reason he did not return was because he received a five minute major and game misconduct for hitting Tom Gilbert of the Oilers from behind. Carcillo was injured on the play as well as Gilbert and will be re-evaluated Tuesday. Carcilllo will likely get a phone call from NHL disciplinarian Brendan Shanahan for the hit and could be facing a suspension. Stay tuned.
