The Anaheim Ducks have signed Corey Perry to an eight-year contract extension worth a total of $69-million.
The deal carries an average annual value of $8.625-million. In 25 games with the Ducks this season, Perry has scored nine goals and added 15 assists with 41 penalty minutes. "Staying in Anaheim has always been my first choice," Perry said in a team release. "This is a great place to play, and I'm very grateful to have the opportunity to remain here." The 27-year-old winger was slated to become an unrestricted free agent this off-season. Perry's is the second eight-year contract the Ducks have handed out this month, as the team locked captain Ryan Getzlaf up to a maximum-term deal on Mar. 8 worth a total of $66 million.

Corey Perry, who is suspended, was happy to hear that Jason Zucker skated on Wednesday.
Perry will be out until March 22 because of his late and high hit on Zucker on Tuesday. "You don't like seeing anybody hurt," Perry said. "If I was in that position, you want to get back as quickly as possible. And hopefully he can. I'm not a person to go out there and hurt people and hope that they're out for a while. I hope he gets back and playing right away." Perry maintains that he simply didn't have time to adequately react to Zucker giving the puck away due to the fast nature of the game. The NHL felt otherwise.

Corey Perry has been given a four-game suspension for his hit on Minnesota's Jason Zucker on Tuesday.
Perry's hit was late and, in the view of the NHL's department of player safety, "recklessly" make contact with Zucker's head. Zucker left the game as a result of the hit and Perry was ejected. He'll be eligible to return on March 22.

Corey Perry is on a six-game point streak.
Perry had three assists on Wednesday, giving him 17 points in 18 games this season. He's bounced back from his disappointing 2011-12 campaign, which should help him as the Anaheim Ducks attempt to re-sign him before his contract expires this summer.

ESPN's Pierre LeBrun reports the Anaheim Ducks are expected to approach the camps of Corey Perry and Ryan Getzlaf about signing contract extensions with seven to 10 days.
Both Perry and Getzlaf are slated to be unrestricted free agents after this season and both players certainly appear to be playing with their next contract in mind. The pair have combined for 11 goals and 32 points through 17 games and have helped the Ducks get off to a roaring start to the season. However, it should be noted this report comes in a blog and not an actual news story and should be taken with the appropriate grain of salt. It's entirely possible both players intent to test out free agency once the season ends and only time will tell as to whether Perry and Getzlaf wish to stay with Anaheim.
