Flyers GM Paul Holmgren says that Chris Pronger was seen by an eye specialist today and that the defenseman is "progressing very well." This is certainly good news coming less than 24 hours after taking Mikhail Grabovski's stick to the eye. The bottom line is an injury of this nature can be tough to gauge especially so soon after the incident. The initial prognosis was that Pronger would be out 2-3 weeks. That could be optimistic.

Eye doctor says that Flyers defenseman Chris Pronger will not be cleared to play unless he wears a visor. Mikhail Grabovski stick alters how the Flyers' captain plays the rest of his career. That's how fast things can happen and Pronger is fortunate the injury was not worse. It could have been his career - and his eye. Initial diagnosis have Pronger missing perhaps two to three weeks. But until the swelling and blood in his eye dissipates, it is very difficult to gauge injuries of this nature and any lasting ill effects.

Chris Pronger, recovering from two offseason surgeries, made his preseason debut and also registered an assist in Philadelphia's 2-1 victory over the New Jersey Devils Thursday night. Pronger underwent procedures on his wrist and back but tonight is a very good reason to be optimistic that he'll be ready for the regular season. The red hot Jaromir Jagr scored the winning goal for the Flyers and Claude Giroux had two assists. Stephane Veilleux was the only Devil who was able to beat Ilya Bryzgalov, who made 17 saves in 30 minutes. Sergei Bobrovsky played the rest of the game and was solid. Martin Brodeur played the whole game for the Devils and made 25 saves.

Chris Pronger will make his preseason debut on Thursday night against New Jersey. "I'm looking forward to just getting into some game action," Pronger said in a statement. "You can only practice so much and try to prepare that way, but there's not like some good, old fashioned live-action hockey. You can't simulate that. Decisions need to be quicker and obviously the pace of the game is a lot quicker, so getting into that action is what you need to prepare for the season." The Flyers captain is returning from off-season surgeries to his back and wrist.

Chris Pronger (back) was on the ice with the Flyers on Monday. Pronger resumed skating on September 9th after undergoing back surgery in May. However, this is the first time since April that he's skated with his teammates. "I had a good day today, but we'll see how I am (Tuesday) after partaking a little bit more than the day before," Pronger said. "I've had some not-so-good days, a couple days where I have not felt great. Usually, the next day, you push through and feel a little better. I felt pretty good today. I didn't feel great, but it was a good start." It remains to be seen if he'll be ready for the Flyers' season opener, but this is certainly a step in the right direction. Stay tuned.

Chris Pronger has been selected as the Philadelphia Flyers' team captain. Mike Richards, the team's former captain, was dealt to the Los Angeles Kings over the summer. Danny Briere described Pronger as the team's de facto captain last season. Pronger has plenty of experience leading teams, having already worn the C for the St. Louis Blues and Anaheim Ducks. This move makes a lot of sense.
