A conspiracy theorist might believe that Edmonton is doing this to justify the size of the contract the team handed him this off-season.

With four points and a minus-2 rating through nine games, Pouliot has been a serviceable depth scorer for the Oilers, but probably doesn't have much upside beyond that. Those probing the Oilers for potential breakout candidates beyond the team's stars are better off taking a gamble on Mark Arcobello or Nail Yakupov, linemates of Pouliot's who are younger and offer much more in terms of untapped potential.

Pouliot (hip) skated Wednesday and will be ready to play in Thursday's opener, according to the Edmonton Journal. Pouliot will skate on the second line with Nail Yakupov and Leon Draisaitl. This line may hold the key to the Oilers success this season as they need secondary scoring but with this being Pouliot's first season in Edmonton and Draisaitl a rookie, it may end up being to much to ask.
