Benoit Pouliot scored his third goal of the season in a 2-1 loss to Philadelphia Tuesday night.
Pouliot was given a chance to take on an increased role with the Lightning and he is taking advantage with six points in nine contests so far. Teddy Purcell and Tom Pyatt drew assists on Pouliot's marker.

Ben Pouliot has re-signed with Tampa for one-year, $1.8 million.
Good signing for the Bolts. We like Pouliot's prospects with the Lightning as we see him as a nice fit on the second line alongside Vincent Lecavalier. Keep an eye on him in training camp. Pouliot could be a nice sleeper pick in 2012-13.

Lightning GM Steve Yzerman is still hoping to sign Benoit Pouliot, even though his team didn't present the forward with a qualifying offer.
Pouliot's agent is still confident the two sides can get something done. It looks like the price of a qualifying offer was too rich for Tampa Bay, but both sides are still interested in inking a cheaper contract.

Benoit Pouliot's agent, Kent Hughes, remains "confident" that his client will sign in Tampa Bay, despite the fact that the Lightning didn't present him with a qualifying offer.
"We think Tampa is a good fit, a good situation for Ben, a good opportunity at this stage in his career," Hughes said. "He made real strides last year and would have been more than comfortable returning to Boston. Boston's got issues that they had to resolve in terms of numbers and cap money, so couldn't think of a better landing spot than Tampa." Tampa Bay is probably hoping to offer Pouliot less than a qualifying offer would have required. However, Pouliot is now eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1.

Benoit Pouliot didn't receive a qualifying offer from the Tampa Bay Lightning.
Pouliot is eligible to become an unrestricted free agent on July 1, but Tampa Bay will probably still attempt to re-sign him. Pouliot had 16 goals and 32 points in 74 games with the Boston Bruins last season. He's coming off of a one-year/$1.1 million deal. Tampa Bay acquired him on June 23 in exchange for rights to Michel Ouellet and the 131st pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft.

Don't be surprised if Benoit Pouliot blossoms as a second-line winger in Tampa.
He may get a chance to play alongside Vincent Lecavalier and get a real chance to put his latent offensive skills to the test. "He's got the skill, the ability to play with our top guys," general manager Steve Yzerman said. "We're going to give him the opportunity." Keep an eye on Pouliot during training camp to see if he takes advantage of this opportunity. If so, he could be a nice 55-60 point sleeper pick in 2012-13.

Tampa Bay has acquired the rights to Benoit Pouliot from the Boston Bruins in exchange for the 131st pick in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft and the rights to Michel Ouellet.
The Tampa Bay Lightning have the option to extend a qualifying offer to Pouliot, which the Boston Bruins weren't interested in doing. If the Lightning present Pouliot with a qualifying offer, then he'll be a restricted free agent this summer.

Benoit Pouliot will be a restricted free agent this summer.
In his first season with the Bruins, he recorded 16 goals and 16 assists in 74 games. He didn't get a qualifying from the Montreal Canadiens about a year ago, which led to his one-year/$1.1 million contract offer from Boston. Could he face a similar fate again this summer? We should know soon enough.
