Andrew Cogliano appears to have won the third line's center's spot with the Anaheim Ducks.
The Ducks acquired Cogliano from the Oilers in exchange for a second round pick in the 2013 Entry Draft. The former first round pick in the 2005 Draft had struggled mightily for the Oilers the last few seasons and a change in scenery was needed. The Ducks love his speed and creativity at center. "His speed is his number one asset," coach Randy Carlyle said. "We have to find a way to help him to get that speed to be noticeable. And it was very noticeable in the last game we played him at center. We practiced with him a couple of times on the wing and I don't think it's as effective. I told him that we're probably going to stay with him as a center iceman and see how that goes." Look for Cogliano to pick up about 40 points but he gets added value if you use face offs as a category.

Andrew Cogliano could play center the next time the Ducks play in pre-season action.
Cogliano was used only on the left wing in the Ducks loss on Tuesday and coach Randy Carlyle likes his wheels on the wing. "We'll experiment a little bit more through the course of this weekend," Carlyle said. "He might get a chance to play center, he might not. I think he can create more with his speed on the outside." Cogliano has little fantasy value as there are plenty of players capable of 40-plus points, unless there is a significant injury to a top-six forward.

Andrew Cogliano will serve as Anaheim's third line center.
The former 25th overall selection in the 2005 Entry Draft was stuck in a crowd of small forwards in Edmonton, but he will have a somewhat defined role in Anaheim, anchoring the third line at center. Cogliano could use the change in scenery but will practically have no fantasy value with the Ducks.

Andrew Cogliano has agreed to a three-year/$7.17 million contract extension with the Anaheim Ducks.
Cogliano and the Ducks have managed to avoid arbitration by agreeing to a long-term deal. He had 11 goals and 35 points in 82 games with Edmonton last season and the Ducks acquired his negotiating rights in exchange for a 2013 second round draft pick. He's projected to serve as Anaheim's third line center, but he might get some playing time on one of the Ducks' top two lines as circumstances dictate.

Andrew Cogliano and Ducks GM Bob Murray are making progress in their contract negotiations.
The two sides are running out of time as Cogliano has an arbitration hearing scheduled for Thursday. It's believed that the two sides are working on a multi-year deal that will give him a significant raise over the $1 million he made last season. Cogliano had 11 goals and 35 points in 82 games with the Edmonton Oilers in 2010-11. The Ducks acquired his rights in exchange for a 2013 second round draft pick.

Andrew Cogliano is looking forward to playing for the Ducks.
Edmonton sent Cogliano to Anaheim in exchange for a second round pick in the 2013 NHL entry draft. "This is obviously the first time I've been traded," Cogliano, who has been with Edmonton since he was drafted in 2005, said. "I'm excited. There's mixed emotions originally right away. I was just on my way to skate and [Oilers GM] Steve Tambellini called me and let me know. I'm excited I'm coming to a team that played in the playoffs and has great players and continually has great seasons. I think that's the ultimate goal. I want to be on a winning team and contribute." Cogliano has yet to participate in a playoff game, but that could change in 2011-12. However, he needs to sign a new contract first. Cogliano is a restricted free agent and he has an arbitration hearing scheduled for July 21st.
