Andrei Markov won't play Wednesday night in Chicago. He is being rested by the Canadiens along with fellow defenseman Alexei Emelin. Carey Price also stayed in Montreal and Peter Budaj will start. The Canadiens host the New York Islanders on Thursday and all of them could be back in the lineup for that contest.

Andrei Markov scored a goal and registered an assist in Montreal's 5-2 loss to Phoenix Thursday night. Montreal tied the game at 7:13 when Markov's blast from the left circle beat Mike Smith. Markov now has six goals and 32 assists in 65 games this season. Alex Galchenyuk also scored for the Canadiens, while defenseman P.K Subban added two helpers in the loss.

Andrei Markov recorded three assists in Montreal's 4-3 overtime win against Toronto. Markov is tied for 10th among defensemen with 36 points in 62 games this season. He's currently negotiating a contract extension with the Canadiens, but there's reportedly a disagreement over the length of the deal. The 35-year-old defenseman is believed to be seeking a three or four-year contract, while Montreal would rather hand him a one-year extension.

Andrei Markov is interested in re-signing with Montreal and the negotiations are ongoing, according to agent Sergei Berezin. Markov reportedly offered the Canadiens a four-year deal, but they want a one or two-year contract. Part of the issue is that Markov is now 35, so if he signs a new contract, it will count against the salary cap even if he doesn't complete it. Markov is still one of the top offensive defensemen in the game, but he missed the better part of the 2009-10 through 2011-12 campaigns due to injuries.

Andrei Markov wants to finish his career with Montreal, but a deal has yet to be reached between him and the Habs for the skilled defenseman, who's contract expires at the end of the season. Markov is currently making $5.75 million per season, and talks are ongoing between the Habs and his agent Sergei Berezin. The Habs offered a short term deal last week to the 35 year-old last week, and though Markov hasn't accepted it yet, it appears a deal is more likely than a trade in the coming days.

Andrei Markov has reportedly been tabled a one-year, $6 million deal from the Montreal Canadiens. TSN 690 Montreal's Tony Marinaro reports that Markov is seeking a three-year contract. The veteran defenseman has recorded five goals and 31 points in 59 games this season. He can become an unrestricted free agent this summer and is currently making $5.75 million.

Andrei Markov has been working as Russia's lone defenseman on the power play's first unit. Alex Ovechkin, Pavel Datsyuk, Ilya Kovalchuk and Alexander Radulov joined him, with Radulov serving as the other point man. The second unit had blueliners Slava Voynov and Evgeny Medvedev on the points, while Vladimir Tarasenko, Evgeni Malkin and Alexander Semin worked up front.

Andrei Markov thinks the Russians have advantages at home despite the tremendous pressure that will be put on them. Expectations are high for Russia to take the gold medal in Sochi after Canada managed to do just that four years ago in Vancouver. "Of course, you feel the pressure," Russian defenseman Andrei Markov said. "But you're also going to feel the support from all Russian people. That'll have to help us." Russia will start their schedule against Slovenia on Thursday. That should be a game they'll win comfortably, but then things will get much harder as they face the United States on Saturday.

Andrei Markov would like to sign an extension with the Montreal Canadiens. "Maybe I'm going to sign another contract tomorrow. Maybe in another month. We'll see," he said. "I'd like to stay here for the rest of my career. You can see some players in their 40s who still play. I don't want to think that far. Whatever is going to happen tomorrow will happen tomorrow." Markov is eligible for unrestricted free agency after this season and preliminary contract talks have already begun. He has recorded 24 points in 46 games this campaign.

Andrei Markov netted both goals for the Canadiens in their 2-1 overtime win against the Blackhawks on Saturday night. His overtime winner came 1:28 into the frame. The defenseman's goals were his first in 10 games -- while he had just two assists during the goal drought. Markov has still been a pretty productive blueliner this season with five goals and 24 points in 46 games. Alexei Emelin, Michael Bournival and Max Pacioretty had the helpers. Tomas Plekanec fired a game-high 11 shots on het.
