Larsson (mumps) is being labeled as day-to-day and his status for Friday's game against the Lightning will be a "coach's decision," Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
After battling the mumps for the previous week, Larsson was cleared to rejoin the team Wednesday. He's skated each of the last two days and appears to have regained stamina after the virus resulted in him losing considerable weight. With the Devils announcing Thursday that Damon Severson (ankle) would miss the next four-to-five weeks, there's a ready-made lineup spot waiting for Larsson should coach Pete DeBoer decide to play him.

Larsson (mumps) rejoined the Devils for their morning skate Wednesday, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
While he won't be a lineup option Wednesday against the Senators, Larsson's reunion with his teammates suggests he's past the contagious period with the mumps. Larsson noted that he first fell ill the night of Dec. 3, meaning that he spent two weeks recovering from the virus. He could need a few days to get his conditioning up to speed, so it's no given that he'll be able to return to the lineup for either of the Devils' two weekend games.

Larsson (illness) has been diagnosed with the mumps virus, Tom Gulitti of The Record reports.
General manager Lou Lamoriello also confirmed that Travis Zajac recently got over the mumps, adding two more players to the growing list of NHLers that have fell victim to the virus. Larsson remains in isolation while he continues to recover from what was initially diagnosed as the flu before he was reevaluated by doctors. The virus has typically run its course in five-to-seven days for players, making it unlikely that Larsson will be cleared to return by the weekend.

Larsson will need to earn the trust of the New Jersey coaching staff in order to secure a spot in the team's lineup.
Larsson has to have a strong camp in order to secure one of the open spots on the team's roster. With him on a one-way, one-year contract now, he'll have to pass through waivers if he is sent down, so he has a roster spot in theory. The fourth-overall pick of the 2011 draft has seen sparse ice time the last few seasons and will need to have a strong training camp along with fellow youngster Eric Gelinas in order to earn the trust of the team's coaching staff.

Defenseman Adam Larsson has reportedly agreed to terms with the Devils on a new one-year, $900,000 contract.
The blueliner thought to be a surefire NHLer when he was drafted has struggled to find consistency at the highest level, but optimism remains due to his relatively young age. This contract agreement puts to rest the chatter from earlier in the offseason suggesting Larsson may be interested in a signing a deal to play in Sweden.
