Fitzpatrick replaced Josh Rosen (coach's decision) during Sunday's 17-16 loss, completing 12 of 18 passes for 132 yards and a touchdown while adding five yards on two carries. Head coach Brian Flores said after the game that Rosen will remain the starter, Armando Salguero of The Miami Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

Fitzpatrick came in early in the fourth quarter and led Miami's only two touchdown drives during his four series, capping off the fourth with an 11-yard touchdown pass to DeVante Parker that the veteran passer whipped in during the game's final seconds. The Dolphins went for the win on the next play, but Fitzpatrick was unable to connect with Kenyan Drake. Despite Sunday's near-heroics, Fitzpatrick has put up poor numbers this season and it'd make little sense to start him ahead of Rosen on a team that is playing for 2020. If he's forced into relief again in Week 7, it'll be against a very stingy Buffalo defense.

Fitzpatrick is entering Sunday's game against the Redskins in the fourth quarter, Armando Salguero of the Miami Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

Fitzpatrick replaced Rosen under center with the Dolphins down 17-3, and he'll work to get the team's aerial attack going for the first time all game. Before being relieved by Fitzpatrick, Rosen had 15 completed passes for 85 yards and two interceptions. The second-year pro had also been sacked five times.

Fitzpatrick will serve as the backup to Josh Rosen during Sunday's tilt against the Cowboys, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Fitzpatrick's leash in Miami appears to have run out after two consecutive blowout losses. The team is instead opting to see how second-year pro Josh Rosen is able to command the offense Week 3. Considering that the Dolphins appear to be focusing on the future and intent on evaluating the potential of their younger players, it's possible that the 36-year-old Fitzpatrick could remain relegated to backup duties going forward even if Rosen struggles.

Fitzpatrick split starting snaps with Josh Rosen during Thursday's practice, Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

Fitzpatrick remains the starter "right now" according to coach Brian Flores, but it's worth noting that he's no longer receiving the lion's share of starting snaps, as he did during last week's practices. The 36-year-old veteran has been pulled from action in each of Miami's contests this season, allowing Rosen to enter both games during the fourth quarter. Rosen is assured to start at some point this season, but the Dolphins could opt to make a switch under center sooner rather than later if Fitzpatrick struggles in Dallas on Sunday.

Coach Brian Flores said Monday that Fitzpatrick is slated to start Week 3 versus the Cowboys but that "we haven't made any final decisions yet," Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

Flores also affirmed that the Dolphins have not explored trading Fitzpatrick, according to Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel. In Fitzpatrick's two starts under center this season, the Dolphins have been outscored, 102-10, and both contests concluded with the 36-year-old veteran being pulled from the game in favor of second-year pro Josh Rosen. Unless Fitzpatrick manages to turn things around and ignite Miami's offense against the Cowboys on Sunday, it seems inevitable that the reigns will soon be handed over to Rosen. After all, the Dolphins are a lock to take an extended look at the young signal-caller at some point this season.

Fitzpatrick (coach's decision) was removed from Sunday's contest against the Patriots with 8:57 remaining in the fourth quarter and replaced under center by Josh Rosen, Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

EDGE Analysis

Fitzpatrick is being pulled from a second consecutive regular-season game. He exited midway through the fourth quarter with the Dolphins trailing 36-0. The veteran quarterback completed 11 of 21 passes for 89 yards and three interceptions, two of which resulted in pick-sixes. It remains to be seen whether Fitzpatrick will manage to keep his grip on the Dolphins' starting job after two disastrous performances.

Fitzpatrick is expected to start against the Patriots in Week 2, Cameron Wolfe of ESPN.com reports.

EDGE Analysis

Fitzpatrick completed just 14 of 29 pass attempts for 185 yards, one touchdown and one interception during Sunday's blowout loss to the Ravens and was replaced by Josh Rosen in the second half. Rosen didn't fare much better, completing one of three passes for five yards and one interception. The veteran signal-caller still appears to have a grip on Miami's starting job, but he may need to log a stronger performance against New England's stout defense in order to avoid the reigns being handed over to Rosen.

Fitzpatrick is exiting Sunday's game against the Ravens to be replaced by Josh Rosen, Safid Deen of the South Florida Sun Sentinel reports.

EDGE Analysis

Fitzpatrick's first start as a Dolphin wasn't impressive. The veteran signal-caller completed 14 of 29 pass attempts for 185 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also was sacked twice. Second-year quarterback Josh Rosen will now get the chance to try and make Miami's offense move.

Fitzpatrick will start the Dolphins' season opener Sunday, Sept. 8 against the Ravens, Adam H. Beasley of the Miami Herald reports.

EDGE Analysis

The addition of Josh Rosen via trade during April's draft gave Fitzpatrick a bit of competition for the starting role. With the Week 1 start confirmed, he'll be under center to kick off a game with an eighth different team. The matchup isn't exactly a great one, though, against a Baltimore defense that ranked fifth versus the pass (210 yards per game) in 2018.

Coach Brian Flores said Sunday that he still isn't sure whether Fitzpatrick or Josh Rosen will get the Week 1 start, Adam Beasley of The Miami Herald reports. "This could go either way," Flores said. "... I think they're both working hard, both have leadership, both have done a lot of good things. This will be a hard decision for the staff."

EDGE Analysis

Flores admits the decision become more difficult after Rosen led a 99-yard touchdown drive in Thursday's preseason win over Jacksonville. Fitzpatrick completed 12 of 18 passes for 126 yards and a touchdown in the contest, but he struggled throughout the first quarter when the Jaguars had most of their key defensive players on the field. He'll face a tough task to keep his job if he gets the Week 1 start, with the Dolphins opening their campaign against the Ravens, Patriots, Cowboys and Chargers, in that order.
