Mike Wallace reeled in five catches for 74 yards and a touchdown in Pittsburgh's Week 2 win over the Jets. Wallace looked fit and ran crisp routes for the second consecutive week coming off his training camp holdout, and is clearly doing just fine in new OC Todd Haley's system. Wallace's touchdown was a 37-yard jump ball where he employed eye-popping footwork to stay in bounds following his leaping grab. The score of 30 yards or longer was the 16th of Wallace's four-year career. He'll be a borderline WR1 against the Raiders' shaky secondary in Week 3.

According to beat writer Gerry Dulack, Mike Wallace looked sharp in his route running versus the Broncos in Week 1. Wallace's route running was a concern after missing all of offensive install in training camp, but he absorbed Todd Haley's playbook while sitting at home. Although a tough matchup looms with the Jets, Wallace should have little trouble producing WR2 value this season.

Mike Wallace showed little rust following his lengthy holdout in Pittsburgh's Week 1 loss, hauling in four passes for 37 yards and a touchdown. Wallace didn't light up the box score on a night where he was targeted six times, but that was due in part to injuries along the Steelers' offensive line limiting Ben Roethlisberger's time in the pocket. "60 Minutes" was targeted mostly on slants, drawing only one true deep bomb, which he was unable to corral. It remains to be seen how things will shake out between Wallace and Antonio Brown, but new OC Todd Haley showed no indication of shying away from his supposedly rusty deep threat. Wallace can be conservatively billed as a high-end WR2.

According to CBS Sports' Jason La Canfora, the Steelers and WR Mike Wallace will not talk extension until after the 2012 season. Wallace reported to camp late and signed his $2.7 million restricted free agent tender, but there was some optimism a long-term deal could be hammered out before Opening Sunday. Not the case, so talks are off for 2012 since the Steelers don't do new deals in-season. Pittsburgh could conceivably slap the franchise tag on Wallace for 2013, but the salary cap has been an issue for the team in recent years. La Canfora notes that James Harrison could be in his last season in the Steel City, so that could free up some money to throw the receiver's way. Wallace is said to be seeking $11 million annually for five years.

The Steelers have reportedly made no progress in long-term contract negotiations with Mike Wallace. The Steelers have a policy of cutting off negotiations once the season begins. There's not expected to be a final-hour breakthrough between the organization and the impending free agent. Previous reports had the Steelers offering $10 million per over five years while Wallace was holding out for $11 million annually.

Coach Mike Tomlin said he is impressed with Mike Wallace's conditioning and knowledge of the playbook so far. Wallace's holdout is quickly becoming water under the bridge. He's tentatively expected to start at the "X" spot on Sunday night and Tomlin sounds confident that the burner can handle a solid amount of reps. We'll know more after the Steelers get a look at Wallace in pads on Wednesday.

Mike Wallace said he already has a good grasp of new OC Todd Haley's offense. Wallace practiced with the team for the first time on Monday. He said he surprised himself by knowing more of the playbook than he thought he would. "I have been studying it," said Wallace. "I have a good grasp of it. It's just running the plays off of it. I am getting there. I like where I am at." Wallace appears on track to start Sunday night's opener in Denver.

Emmanuel Sanders says Mike Wallace will start Sunday night's game against the Broncos. We'll wait for coach Mike Tomlin before considering this official, but Sanders should be in the know. While Wallace was holding out, Sanders was running as the first-team "X" wideout in new OC Todd Haley's offense. Wallace will only have one week of full-team practices under his belt by the time Sunday rolls around.

CBS' Jason La Canfora reports the Steelers have "renewed contact" with Mike Wallace about a new contract, but will not negotiate during the season. It means the sides have one week to get a deal done. With Wallace believed to be intent on topping Vincent Jackson's five-year, $55.5 million pact with the Bucs, it's unlikely an accord is reached. That would make Wallace a strong candidate for the franchise tag next winter.

Mike Wallace will practice for the first time on Monday. Per the new CBA rules, players can't participate in practice for three days after they report. So Wallace will have just five practices under his belt before the Steelers play the Broncos on Sunday Night Football. He's going to be a risky Week 1 play against an improved Denver defense.
