ESPN's Adam Schefter reiterated on SportsCenter Thursday that the Steelers are unlikely to shop unsigned restricted free agent Mike Wallace for trade.
Steelers GM Kevin Colbert told ESPN's Ed Werder late last month that Wallace is not available for trade. "The Steelers have been very clear that they're not looking to trade Mike Wallace," said Schefter. "... When the Steelers say they're not gonna trade him, you can believe them." Schefter indicated that we shouldn't expect Wallace to report to Steelers camp until just before Week 1.

The Steelers have reportedly simplified route-running assignments in Todd Haley's new offense, focusing more on "reacting" than "reading."
The receivers will be allowed to freelance a bit more, with an emphasis on simply getting open. It basically sounds like an offense designed for Mike Wallace, who's never been the crispest of route runners but has gotten open anyway with raw football speed. It's also a reminder that, if/when Wallace reports to training camp, he shouldn't take long to fit right into Haley's system.

ESPN's Adam Schefter believes the Steelers are serious about not trading Mike Wallace.
The opinion puts the league's most plugged-in report at odds with the Pittsburgh media, though no Steelers beat writers have come out and called a Wallace trade likely. As is the case with most holdouts, the situation should remain ever changing.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette believes it would require "one big change of heart" for Steelers holdout Mike Wallace to report to training camp over the course of the next three weeks.
The Post-Gazette has been adamant that Wallace's long-term contract demands will not be met, and his only options are to cave and sign his one-year, $2.742 million tender, or sit out the first ten regular season games. The paper is also not ruling out the possibility of a preseason Wallace trade. The idea of the Steelers paying Wallace is considered "the least likely possibility."

The Miami Herald expects the Dolphins to "at least make a call" to the Steelers about the availability of unsigned restricted free agent Mike Wallace.
Columnist/reporter Armando Salguero is aware of Steelers GM Kevin Colbert's stance that Wallace is unavailable, but says "I've covered this league too long to know that often a 'no' means 'not now' and sometimes it transitions to 'yes, absolutely.'" The Dolphins are clearly in the market for a wide receiver; they were willing to use a high supplemental pick on Josh Gordon and recently tried out free agent Braylon Edwards. This union would make an awful lot of sense.

Steelers GM Kevin Colbert tells ESPN's Ed Werder that unsigned restricted free agent Mike Wallace is not available for trade.
There was speculation that Wallace could be available following Antonio Brown's extension, but Colbert denied trade rumors involving multiple teams. Wallace hasn't reported to training camp and is currently deciding whether to play under his $2.742 million tender or holdout the first 10 games of the season. He remains without a timetable to return to the Steelers.

According to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, unsigned restricted free agent Mike Wallace is seeking a contract similar to Vincent Jackson's in Tampa Bay.
The Sacramento Bee reported in March that Wallace was demanding Larry Fitzgerald money. Fitzgerald received $120 million over eight years, good for an annual average of $15 million and the richest contract in league history for a wideout at the time it was signed. Jackson's deal was worth $55.555 million over five years -- an $11.1 annual average and quite a bit more reasonable. A team willing to pony up that kind of dough plus a decent draft pick could probably take Wallace off the Steelers' hands before the season.

The Pittsburgh Post-Gazette estimates restricted free agent Mike Wallace wouldn't net the Steelers more than a fourth-round pick in a trade.
Beat writer Ed Bouchette bases his guess on the fact that no one was willing to surrender a first-round pick for Wallace in the offseason, and because Pittsburgh could net only a fifth-round pick when it dealt Santonio Holmes in April 2010. Holmes, of course, was facing a four-game suspension at the time. If one of the league's best young deep threats in Wallace is truly available for trade, it's hard to believe many teams wouldn't at least consider parting with a second- or third-round pick.

The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review reports restricted free agent Mike Wallace turned down a contract offer in the five-year, $50 million range.
So he was offered more than Antonio Brown, though not much more. Wallace is said to be seeking a deal similar to Vincent Jackson's five-year, $55.556 million contract. Without knowledge of the guarantees involved, it's easy to second-guess Wallace's decision to skip the beginning of training camp. Wallace must now decided whether to report to camp under the $2.742 million tender or sit out the first 10 games of the season in protest.

Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette cautions "do not be surprised if Steelers trade Mike Wallace during training camp."
We fully expect the Steelers to listen to offers now that they no longer believe they can sign Wallace to a long-term deal. Dulac reports the team's brass called Drew Rosenhaus, agent for Antonio Brown, hours after Wallace failed to report for the start of camp. Rosenhaus and the Steelers then spent two days hammering out a deal for Brown while Wallace twisted in the wind. The franchise proved two years ago with the Santonio Holmes trade that they won't hesitate to make an example of a player who won't get with "Steeler-Way."
