Coach Rex Ryan revealed that S LaRon Landry (Achilles) "was actually in attendance for a few" OTAs and will be at minicamp next week. "I think he's doing what's in his best interest," explained Ryan. The Jets aren't sure just how limited Landry will be at minicamp, but Ryan remains confident he will participate in training camp and be "ready to roll" for training camp.

Coach Rex Ryan is "hopeful" that S LaRon Landry (Achilles) will be medically cleared by training camp. Darrelle Revis was told that Landry was missing from OTAs as a result of a "family issue," though Ryan's comment suggest Landry wouldn't be participating regardless. The Jets aren't ruling out re-signing free agent Jim Leonhard. At this point, Ryan claims to be "really happy" with the underwhelming combo of Yeremiah Bell and Eric Smith at safety.

Jets SS LaRon Landry (Achilles') was a no-show for the start of OTAs Monday. Landry hardly participated in the pre-draft conditioning program, and it's unclear whether his absence from OTAs has been excused. Landry is still rehabbing his 2011 Achilles' injury. He's no sure thing to be ready for training camp.

Jets SS LaRon Landry (Achilles') has not been a regular participant in the team's offseason conditioning program. Landry has been to the facility since he signed in March, but he "has not been regularly participating in training or meetings." The New York beat writers don't know why. It's no secret that multiple teams passed on Landry in free agency because the medical exams on his Achilles' were so poor. The Jets surprisingly guaranteed virtually all of Yeremiah Bell's contract as insurance.

According to the Boston Globe, the Patriots ended up passing on SS LaRon Landry because the medicals on his troublesome Achilles' tendon came back "iffier" than expected. It's a hardly a surprise considering Landry went against the advice of Redskins doctors in eschewing surgery in favor of stem-cell treatment. Landry's contract with the Jets suggests the Patriots and Redskins aren't the only teams concerned about Landry's ability to withstand a 16-game schedule.

A league source tells Mac's Football Blog SS LaRon Landry's one-year contract with the Jets prohibits the franchise or transition tag from being placed on him next offseason.

LaRon Landry's one-year contract with the Jets, for a maximum of $3.5 million, is heavily tied to his ability to suit up for all 16 games next season. Landry's base salary is just $700,000. In addition to a $950,000 Super Bowl bonus, half of the contract is in the form of bonuses for each game he is on the active roster. If this was the best Landry could do, it goes to show that no team trusted him to stay healthy after going against doctors orders to undergo surgery on his Achilles.

Jets GM Mike Tannenbaum expects SS LaRon Landry (Achilles) to be ready for opening day "barring something unforeseen." "We feel really good about LaRon," Tannenbaum said. "We feel really good about our medical department. And we're going to work as a partnership to get him ready for opening day." Landry insisted Tuesday that he would be at OTAs and minicamp, participating "as much as possible."

The Jets are "trying to sign" free agent SS LaRon Landry, according to ESPN New York. Landry had an overnight visit and toured the facility Monday morning after visiting New England over the weekend. There are three teams currently in the mix for the best safety on the market, reports the Newark Star-Ledger.
