Miami Herald columnist Armando Salguero calls Kyle Orton a "logical acquisition" who "makes perfect sense" for the Dolphins. Amid rumors the Broncos would ultimately have to release Orton because of his lofty salary and bonuses figure, Salguero suspects the Fins wouldn't have to give up more than a third- or fourth-round pick. At the very least, Orton could pose a significant challenge to Chad Henne for the starting job in training camp. We'd bet on Orton winning such a competition.

According to the Denver Post's Jeff Legwold, most GMs around the league believe the Broncos may ultimately be forced to release Kyle Orton. The Broncos have Orton listed atop the depth chart while trying to convince the rest of the league that he and Tim Tebow can coincide for another year. Our belief has been that the clamor for Tebow in Denver will be so loud that Orton wouldn't keep the starting job for long even if he did start Week 1. If the Broncos don't deal Orton for a reasonable return early in camp, they're painting themselves into a corner with a $9 million backup.

Woody Paige of the Denver Post predicts that the Broncos will receive an offer of a "conditional draft pick and a veteran player" in exchange for Kyle Orton after the lockout. Paige isn't certain Orton will be traded, believing it will come down to whether Tim Tebow shows he's capable of dropping back quickly from center when training camp starts. Paige suggests the Cardinals, Seahawks, Dolphins, "and/or" Titans as teams that may be willing to swing a deal for Orton. Keep in mind that Paige is a columnist -- not a reporter -- and is likely just guessing.

The Broncos are roughly $9 million over the salary cap, according to the Denver Post. The Broncos could massage several veteran contracts, most notably Brian Dawkins ($7.156 million) and Andre Goodman ($4.080 million). But the team also plans to be active in free agency, filling multiple holes. The tight salary cap situation is one reason we've been expecting a Kyle Orton trade all offseason. He won't hold off Tim Tebow for much longer, and there's no sense in keeping a backup QB with an $8.879 million salary.

NFL Network's Steve Wyche calls a Kyle Orton trade out of Denver a "distinct possibility." Wyche sounds more gung-ho about the idea than colleague Jason La Canfora, who has cautioned against an Orton trade all offseason. According to Wyche, new Broncos coach John Fox is less concerned with a quarterback's mechanics than his leadership skills. Tim Tebow was born with the latter and lacks in the former. Wyche doesn't expect Fox to name a starter until he absolutely must.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reiterated that Kyle Orton and Donovan McNabb are on the Vikings' "radar" this summer. Mort believes Matt Hasselbeck is "in anyone's discussion, too." While Mort had opined previously that Orton is a more likely target for Minnesota than McNabb, NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora has suggested the opposite. The names being bandied about suggest the Vikings may not be prepared to enter the season with Christian Ponder as the starter after all.

NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora would be "surprised" if Kyle Orton is not the Broncos' opening-day starter this year. The Broncos are holding firm to a second-round price tag, which they believe will limit the demand for Orton. The one team we could envision meeting the asking price is Arizona, but only if they lose out on Kevin Kolb. Even with coach John Fox's veteran fetish, it's no certainty that Orton will hold off Tim Tebow to start in Week 1.

Kyle Orton is working out with Larry Fitzgerald in Minnesota this week. Their friendship goes back a decade, so we wouldn't read too much into this even with Orton widely reported as the Cardinals' fallback option at QB. Fitz does have some clout with the Arizona front office, though, and it's not hard to imagine the two players discussing the possibility of a trade.
