Head coach Hue Jackson expects McCown to be the Browns' starting quarterback Sunday against the Giants, Scott Petrak of the Elyria Chronicle-Telegram reports.
EDGE Analysis
Suffering the second concussion of the season in Sunday's game against the Steelers, rookie Cody Kessler yielded direction of the offense to McCown, who was 14-for-27 passing for 118 yards and one touchdown upon taking over in the third quarter. The potential exists for Kessler to be shut down due to the nature of his injury, per Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer, thereby allowing McCown to helm the offense. Fellow quarterback Robert Griffin (shoulder) is in line to practice this week, but easing into the fold rather than getting thrown in the fire is likely the prudent approach for the 0-11 Browns. With his third start (and fifth appearance) of the season imminent, McCown is difficult to trust due to a completion percentage of 53.3 and eight turnovers (including six interceptions) to date.

McCown took over for Cody Kessler (concussion) at the end of the third quarter and completed 14 of 27 passes for 118 yards and a score against the Steelers on Sunday. He also lost a fumble.
EDGE Analysis
McCown found Gary Barnidge for the tight end's first touchdown of the season, but it was tough sledding for the veteran quarterback. He was sacked four times in the fourth quarter -- including one that resulted in him losing a fumble in the end zone. If Kessler is unable to clear concussion protocol, McCown may be in line to start in Week 12 against the Giants, although Robert Griffin (shoulder) should return to practice at some point next week.

McCown was excused from Monday's practice, Nate Ulrich of the Akron Beacon Journal reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCown and the Browns are coming off playing last Thursday against the Ravens, so Monday's practice was a rare session that he was given off. When he rejoins his teammates, McCown is slated to serve as backup to rookie Cody Kessler at quarterback.

McCown will remain the Browns' backup quarterback following his three-turnover cameo in relief of starter Cody Kessler on Thursday against the Ravens, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
McCown was inserted during the third quarter of Thursday's game due to coach Hue Jackson's desire for a spark, but the veteran responded with two interceptions, one lost fumble and two three-and-outs on his five drives in charge. After that poor showing, and considering the fact that Kessler wasn't all that bad prior to being pulled, McCown will remain in his second-string gig going forward, giving the Browns more time to evaluate and develop Kessler while seeking their first win of the season.

McCown completed six of 13 passes for 59 yards and threw two interceptions during Thursday's matchup with the Ravens. He also lost a fumble.
EDGE Analysis
McCown took over for Cody Kessler during the third quarter Thursday, but the 37-year-old was far from an improvement, as three of his six possessions ended in turnovers. It's too early to say whether or not McCown has displaced Kessler as Cleveland's starter, but his latest performance would suggest he'll remain the backup.

McCown will be replaced by rookie Cody Kessler as the Browns' starting quarterback Sunday against the Cowboys.
EDGE Analysis
McCown started versus the Jets last Sunday while Kessler was out due to a concussion, but with the rookie clearing protocol this week, Kessler will reclaim Cleveland's first-string gig. Although McCown began the season ahead of Kessler on the depth chart, the 37-year-old is hardly a long-term solution for the Browns, who want to get a better look at their 2016 third-rounder over the remainder of the campaign. So while McCown's return to fantasy relevancy was short-lived, the Browns' lack of injury luck at quarterback could always see him back taking snaps if Kessler goes down again.

Head coach Hue Jackson said Monday that Cody Kessler (concussion) has been cleared to practice, which could threaten McCown's standing as the Browns' starting quarterback, Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plan Dealer reports.
EDGE Analysis
Reaching halftime of Sunday's game against the Jets with a 20-7 lead, the Browns' first win of the season was within reach, but 21 unanswered points from the visitors to begin the second half put Cleveland behind the eight ball. On back-to-back possessions thereafter, an offense that could generate nothing on the ground placed the ball in McCown's hands, and he proceeded to toss interceptions on both occasions. He did direct a 14-play touchdown drive in garbage time to reach the final score of 31-28, but the picks were effectively back-breaking. If Kessler is able to ditch concussion symptoms this week, Jackson seems willing to turn back to the rookie signal-caller, who has completed 67 percent of his passes and tossed four touchdowns versus one interception.

McCown completed 25 of 49 passes for 341 yards with two touchdowns and two interceptions during Sunday's loss to the Jets. He also rushed three times for 10 yards.
EDGE Analysis
The Jets completely shut down Cleveland's running game, forcing McCown to throw 49 times in his return from a broken collarbone. Nine different receivers caught passes, and he was able to hook up with Andrew Hawkins for two touchdowns, though the 37-year-old was picked off twice in the fourth quarter, effectively ending the Browns' chances for their first victory of the season. It remains to be seen if McCown will remain the starter once Cody Kessler (concussion) clears protocol, but for now, expect Cleveland to ride with the veteran.

Head coach Hue Jackson announced Friday that McCown will start Sunday's game against the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
McCown has recovered from the shoulder injury that sidelined him since Week 2, and he will get the nod this week over Cody Kessler, who remains in the concussion protocol and has been ruled out for Week 8. He will have a favorable matchup in his return to action, as he will face a Jets team that ranks 26th in the league against the pass in 23rd in points allowed per game.

Coach Hue Jackson noted Thursday that all signs point to McCown (left shoulder) starting at QB for the Browns on Sunday against the Jets.
EDGE Analysis
While Jackson fell short Thursday of declaring McCown the team's Week 8 starter, such an outcome appears set to be confirmed, possibly by Friday, barring any setbacks.
