Booker (wrist) will have surgery Friday and is being placed on the PUP list, The Denver Post's Nicki Jhabvala reports.
EDGE Analysis
Booker suffered a hairline fracture in his wrist during OTAs and is expected to miss at least six weeks while recovering from surgery. He's in serious danger of missing Week 1, which helps Jamaal Charles' chances of earning a roster spot and a significant role. It also leaves C.J. Anderson with less competition for work and improves rookie sixth-rounder De'Angelo Henderson's odds of sticking with the team. Booker was expected to share first-team reps with Anderson and possibly Charles during training camp. Broncos coach Vance Joseph does still expect Booker to be ready for Week 1, according to Andrew Mason of the team's official site.

Booker is expected to miss up to six-to-eight weeks with an undisclosed wrist injury, Mike Florio of NBC Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
It isn't clear how Booker suffered the wrist injury as the Broncos don't open training camp until Thursday. However, this development makes the second-year runner an extremely-likely candidate to be placed on the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list before practices commence, clearing the way for C.J. Anderson -- and Jamaal Charles, to a lesser extent -- to carry the load at running back until further notice.

Booker and C.J. Anderson will divide up the lion's share of first-team reps during training camp, ESPN's Jeff Legwold reports.
EDGE Analysis
Given how perfectly the Broncos' former offensive staff reportedly felt Booker was for their inside-outside zone offense, Booker's rookie season was mostly a disappointment dating back to his first career carry, which he fumbled. While just a blip on the radar screen, his 109-total-yard effort to close out the season against Oakland showed a glimpse of hope of what he can become and it's a fair bet that Booker will get every opportunity to show what he's made of this season. Despite solid depth, the Broncos don't have many certainties at running back with Jamaal Charles and C.J. Anderson both coming off of major knee injuries. That should mean plenty of opportunities for Booker whose receiving ability should be better utilized in Mike McCoy's hybrid scheme.

Less than a year removed from two knee surgeries, Booker hit a rookie wall in 2016, but is poised to improve during his sophomore campaign, Jeff Legwold of ESPN.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Rumors flew after the 2016 draft that, had Denver not been able to nab Paxton Lynch, Booker was on their radar in the first round. He slid to the fourth and his quick-twitch style paired with a bruising physique made many wonder how long it would take for Booker to capture Denver's lead job. It ended up being after Week 7, as C.J. Anderson's season-ending knee injury left Booker as Denver's top dog. It didn't work out as Booker averaged just under three yards per carry for the rest of the season. He did show flashes as a talented all-around back, however, including his 109-total-yard performance in Week 17 during which he scored two touchdowns. The Broncos depth chart, outside of Booker, is deep, but features a ton of question marks including the inconsistent Anderson, injured Jamaal Charles, and inexperienced De'Angelo Henderson. That depth can make it difficult for Booker to get too many touches. The quality of that depth could also mean that Booker is the Broncos' lead back before long.

Veteran speedster Jamaal Charles has signed with the Broncos, posing as competition for touches with Booker, Nicki Jhabvala of the Denver Post reports.
EDGE Analysis
Booker, like many elements of Denver's offense, had an inconsistent 2016 - failing to average four yards per carry in 10 of 16 games. He ended on a high note in Week 17 with 109 total yards and two scores and, after Denver didn't spend a premium pick on a running back in the draft, the presumption was that he and C.J. Anderson would split carries as they did early in 2016. The addition of Charles certainly shows that the front office is looking to improve the team's backfield production, but it also doesn't necessarily push Anderson or Booker out. Charles, as far back as 2014, has ceased being a bellcow back - often spelled that year by Knile Davis. Charles has just 106 touches in the two seasons since due to injury and is now on the wrong side of 30 years old. It is possible that he explodes onto the scene and changes the dynamic of Denver's rushing attack, but it is far too early to tell.

The Broncos have committed nearly $24 million in guarantees to free agent acquisitions Ronald Leary and Menelik Watson, 9News Denver reports. The newcomers are likely bolster an offensive line that gave Booker little room to run in 2016.
EDGE Analysis
Leary comes to Denver from Dallas, where he helped form one of the league's top offensive line units. He is likely to play opposite Max Garcia in one of Denver's guard spots. With a revolving door at right tackle - both in terms of rotation of players and how opposing rushers treated them - in recent years and last year's left tackle Russell Okung off to Los Angeles, Watson provides Denver with the necessary athleticism to compete for either spot. The additions signal a commitment to fixing an offensive line that was sixth worst in the NFL in providing Booker and his stable-mates yards before contact, according to Pro Football Focus. Provided Denver, as expected, continues to address the line in the draft, expect Booker to have a somewhat easier time during his sophomore campaign.

Booker rushed for 612 yards and four touchdowns on 174 carries and added 31 catches for 265 yards and a score in 2016.
EDGE Analysis
After taking Booker in the fourth round of the 2016 draft, the Broncos made no secret of the fact that they thought they got a steal. Booker didn't always look that way, though, fumbling on his very first play as a Bronco - his first of four on the season - and failing to average four yards per rush in 10 of 16 games. The good news is that Denver's attack should be more open in 2017, perhaps more like the spread attack that Booker excelled in at Utah. He also ended 2016 on a high note, a 109-yard-two-touchdown game against Oakland. He should face some competition from Kapri Bibbs, who also showed some big-play ability in 2016, but expect Booker to have an inside track toward being C.J. Anderson's primary complement in 2017, particularly with his abilities as a receiver.

Booker rushed for 57 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries and added 52 yards and a score on two catches in Sunday's win over the Raiders.
EDGE Analysis
The season ended the way the Broncos had hoped it would start for Booker, who scored on an 11 yard off-tackle to start the game and then added a second score on a 43-yard screen on third and long in the second quarter. Booker's uneven rookie season was partially his own doing, but sub-par offensive line play didn't help matters. The line looked decidedly better on Sunday and, with Denver returning to a two-back offense for the first time since rookie fullback Andy Janovich went on injured reserve, Booker showed flashes of quality play. If he can build off of how 2016 ended, he should serve as a quality complement to C.J. Anderson entering 2017.

Booker handled five carries for 27 yards and gathered in six of 10 passes for 44 yards during Sunday's 33-10 loss at Kansas City.
EDGE Analysis
The Broncos may have thrown their expected Week 16 game plan out the window after a blitzkrieg start by the Chiefs, who jumped out to a 21-7 lead by the end of the first quarter. In any case, Booker was a beneficiary due to his all-around skill set. Leading Denver in rushing yards, receptions, receiving yards, and targets, he nearly matched his yards from scrimmage from the previous three games combined, as his 71 yards fell 10 yards shy. Although the defending Super Bowl champions have been knocked out of postseason contention, Booker will attempt to conclude his rookie year on a positive note next Sunday against a Raiders defense that has allowed 136.7 scrimmage yards per game and 16 touchdowns to running backs on the campaign.

Booker rushed six times for 17 yards and caught two of four targets for 16 yards in Sunday's 16-3 loss to the Patriots.
EDGE Analysis
Booker didn't receive a carry until late in the first quarter, while Justin Forsett racked up the first seven touches out of the backfield (five rushes, two receptions). Forsett's final stat line wasn't that impressive, but he was more involved, as he had 10 carries for 37 yards and caught four of five targets for 16 yards. Booker's production has really dipped lately, so he's hard to trust next week at Kansas City.
