Mattison (illness), whom the Vikings placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday, isn't vaccinated and thus has entered into a 10-day quarantine, making him unavailable for next Monday's game at Chicago, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison returned to his complementary role out of the backfield last Thursday against the Steelers with Dalvin Cook (shoulder) back in the lineup, taking six carries for 27 yards. With Monday's development, those reps now will trickle down to Kene Nwangwu and Wayne Gallman, who was claimed off waivers Monday. Mattison's next chance to suit up will be Sunday, Dec. 26 against the Rams.

Mattison (illness) was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Monday.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison reverted to a complementary role Week 14 versus the Steelers with Dalvin Cook back on the field, and he's now entered COVID-19 protocols. According to Tom Pelissero of NFL Network, Mattison tested positive for the virus. Veteran tailback Wayne Gallman was claimed off waivers to bolster Minnesota's depth at running back in the meantime.

Mattison rushed six times for 27 yards and failed to bring in his only target during the Vikings' 36-28 win over the Steelers on Thursday night.
EDGE Analysis
The talented backup running back returned to his usual spot on the depth chart because Dalvin Cook was able to overcome his shoulder injury and suit up Thursday. Cook went on to deliver the second-best rushing yardage tally of his career (205) on 20 carries, leaving Mattison with only a handful of touches in the Vikings' high-scoring win. As capable as Mattison has proven to be when given extended opportunity, Thursday's results served as a tangible reminder of why Mattison will remain a clear No. 2 behind his teammate as long as Cook is healthy.

Mattison will welcome back Dalvin Cook (shoulder) to the Vikings backfield for Thursday's game against the Steelers.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison is coming off his third spot start of the season for Cook in which he took 25 touches for 124 yards from scrimmage and one rushing TD during this past Sunday's loss at Detroit. With Cook back in the lineup and wearing a harness on his previously dislocated left shoulder, there's a chance Mattison spells Cook at times to ease the pressure on Minnesota's top running back. Still, when Cook has been available this season, Mattison has averaged just five touches per game.

Mattison rushed 22 times for 90 yards and a touchdown while adding three receptions for 34 yards in Sunday's 29-27 loss to the Lions.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison got the start in place of the injured Dalvin Cook (shoulder), doing his best impression of Minnesota's star tailback. The 23-year-old is now averaging 149.3 combined yards and two total touchdowns in the three starts he has made this season, making him a must-roster player for any games Cook is forced to miss. While the latter was technically listed as questionable leading up to Sunday's tilt, initial reports projected Cook to miss two games. The Vikings are slated to take on the Steelers on Thursday, so Mattison could get another start with such a quick turnaround.

Mattison is expected to fill a lead role out of the Minnesota backfield Sunday in Detroit with Dalvin Cook (shoulder) ruled out for the contest, Craig Peters of the Vikings' official site reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison already appeared to be tracking toward his third start of the season after Adam Schefter of ESPN reported Monday that Cook was due to miss the Vikings' next two games with a dislocated left shoulder, but head coach Mike Zimmer wasn't immediately willing to rule the 26-year-old out for the Week 13 matchup. Zimmer finally relented Friday after Cook missed his third straight practice, leaving Mattison and Kene Nwangwu as the lone healthy running backs currently on the 53-man roster. Given that Nwangwu has been entrusted with little more than a special-teams role this season, Mattison should be well positioned to play at least two-thirds of Minnesota's offensive snaps while likely taking on 20-plus touches, just as he did in starts Week 3 and 5. In the Week 5 matchup with this same Lions squad, Mattison carried 25 times for 113 yards and hauled in all seven of his targets for 40 yards and a touchdown. Mattison looks like a must-start option in just about every fantasy league in Week 13.

Mattison carried the ball seven times for 21 yards and a touchdown and caught two of three targets for seven yards in Sunday's 34-28 loss to the 49ers.
EDGE Analysis
The touchdown, Mattison's first rushing TD of the year, came early in the second half, but Dalvin Cook left the game on the Vikings' next drive with a shoulder injury and didn't return. If Cook's latest injury proves to be serious, Mattison could find himself back in the lead role for a very juicy Week 13 matchup with the Lions.

Mattison had three carries for five yards in Sunday's 34-31 win over Green Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison isn't getting many opportunities with Dalvin Cook healthy, as he's had just 20 touches over his last five games. Mattison had more than 100 yards rushing in both spot starts this season when Cook was injured, so he's still one of the more valuable backups in the league.

Mattison had four carries for 16 yards and one reception for 24 yards in Sunday's 27-20 win at the Chargers.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison isn't getting many touches with Dalvin Cook healthy, but his 24-yard reception was a key play in the game. He played just 12 snaps on offense as he has a limited backup role with Cook at full strength. Mattison eclipsed 100 rushing yards in both spot starts when Cook has sat out this season, so he's still one of the more valuable backups in the league.
