Mattison has been the subject of trade discussions with "at least 12" teams, according to Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press.
EDGE Analysis
The 2019 third-round pick is in the final season of his rookie contract and doesn't plan to sign an extension with the Vikings. Mattison isn't likely to get more than 5-to-7 touches per game when the team has Dalvin Cook, who missed multiple contests in each of his first five seasons. Cook's shoulder is particularly vulnerable to re-injury after numerous sprains and dislocations, but he seems to be healthy heading into a Week 1 joust with the Packers.

Mattison recorded three carries for 17 yards in Saturday's preseason loss to the 49ers.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison was the starting back with Dalvin Cook (rest) out, though he didn't tally a carry after Minnesota's first offensive possession. He ripped off a 13-yard gain that pushed the Vikings deep into San Francisco territory, though the drive ended with a Kellen Mond interception. Mattison will continue to work as Cook's backup once the regular season kicks off.

Mattison started Sunday's preseason game against the Raiders in place of Dalvin Cook (rest), finishing with three carries for eight yards and no targets in the passing game.
EDGE Analysis
Cook was just being rested for the preseason game, so fantasy managers don't need to read too much into Mattison starting this contest. The fourth-year back has proven to be a reliable fantasy asset when asked to fill in for the oft-injured Cook in the past, but Mattison's role nearly vanishes when the Vikings' star is at full strength.

Mattison (finger) practiced Wednesday, Arif Hasan of The Athletic reports.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison and Dalvin Cook (hand) both returned to the field after suffering minor injuries Tuesday. The pecking order in Minnesota's backfield appears to be the same as ever, though a new coaching staff could mix things up a little by giving Kene Nwangwu or Ty Chandler a few looks. Still, it's mostly the same deal for Mattison in the fourth and final year of his rookie contract, with his fantasy value largely tied to Cook's health.

Mattison appeared to injure a finger during Tuesday's practice and left early, the Minneapolis Star Tribune reports.
EDGE Analysis
The injury appears minor, but it's worth monitoring during training camp. Mattison will reprise his role as the backup to starter Dalvin Cook. He's one of the better backups in the league as in four games as the primary running back last season with Cook sidelined, Mattison totaled 356 rushing yards, 162 receiving yards and three touchdowns. However, he had just 135 yards rushing in the 12 games where he served as the backup. It's possible new head coach Kevin O'Connell could look to give Cook more rest this year, but even then we wouldn't expect a significant increase in Mattison's touches when serving as the backup.

Mattison ran five times for 18 yards and caught his only target for three yards during Week 18's 31-17 win over the Bears.
EDGE Analysis
With Dalvin Cook healthy, Mattison once again took a back seat in Week 18. He finished the 2021 campaign with 134 rushing attempts for 491 yards and three touchdowns while adding 32 receptions for 228 yards and one score through the air. However, the majority of that production came when Cook was sidelined. In four games as the primary running back, Mattison totaled 356 rushing yards, 162 receiving yards and three touchdowns. The 2019 third-round pick is under contract for the 2022 season, so he'll likely garner a similar backup role to Dalvin Cook again next year.

Mattison did not have a carry and had four receptions for 13 yards on five targets in Sunday's 37-10 loss at Green Bay.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison returned to a backup role with Dalvin Cook returning from the COVID-19 list after missing a game. Mattison played on 19 of the offense's 54 snaps. It's possible Mattison could have a larger role Week 18 against Chicago with Minnesota out of the playoff race and the team potentially resting Cook.

Mattison rushed the ball 13 times for 41 yards and a touchdown in Sunday's 30-23 loss to the Rams. He added three receptions for 29 yards.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison dominated touches out of Minnesota's backfield in the absence of Dalvin Cook (illness), accounting for 13 of 22 total rushes -- four of which were recorded by Kirk Cousins. However, he was held in check for much of the game, though he managed a two-yard touchdown plunge early in the third quarter to turn in a productive performance from a fantasy perspective. He was also fairly active as a receiver, which also supplemented his subpar work as a rusher. It's unclear whether Cook will be back for Minnesota's Week 17 matchup against Green Bay, but if not, Mattison will once again be in line for a significant workload.

Mattison is on track to serve as Minnesota's lead back Sunday against the Rams after Dalvin Cook was placed on the reserve/COVID-19 list Thursday, Chris Tomasson of the St. Paul Pioneer Press reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Vikings haven't revealed whether Cook was placed on the list due to a positive test for the virus, but because he's unvaccinated, the 26-year-old running back will have to complete a five-day quarantine even if he was deemed a close contact of an infected person. If he tested positive for the virus, Cook would be subject to a 10-day quarantine, which would provide him with enough time to get cleared ahead of a Jan. 2 game against the Packers in Week 17, albeit without the benefit of any practice beforehand. In any case, since he'll be picking up at least one start sans Cook, Mattison looks like a strong lineup option in just about any fantasy format. In his prior three starts while Cook was sidelined Weeks 3, 5 and 13, Mattison played at least two-thirds of the Vikings' offensive snaps and averaged 24.3 carries, 6.0 targets and 149.3 yards from scrimmage per game while reaching the end zone twice.

The Vikings activated Mattison (illness) from the reserve/COVID-19 list Wednesday.
EDGE Analysis
Mattison has completed his mandatory 10-day quarantine for unvaccinated players after testing positive for the virus Dec. 13. He's thus poised to serve as Minnesota's No. 2 running back to Dalvin Cook moving forward, a role that has amounted to 5.1 touches per game in his 10 non-spot starts this season.
