Cook is in the starting lineup for Thursday's matchup with the Rockets, Dave McMenamin of ESPN.com reports.

With LeBron James (groin) and Alex Caruso (neck) both out with injuries, Cook will be making his first start of the season. The former Duke standout logged 12 minutes of action in Wednesday's loss against the Thunder but could see increased minutes with the Lakers shorthanded Thursday.

Cook went for 12 points (4-11 FG, 0-2 3PT, 4-4 FT) in Monday's scrimmage against Washington.

Cook played 26 minutes as the Lakers rested several regulars, and he made the most of the increased time, adding six rebounds and two assists, though he did commit five turnovers. Cook will battle with J.R. Smith, Dion Waiters and Alex Caruso for minutes off the bench with Rajon Rondo (hand) out and Avery Bradley (personal) not with the team.

Cook logged four minutes off the bench in Tuesday's 129-102 win over the Spurs, contributing zero points (0-2 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and one rebound.

EDGE Analysis

Cook has seen action in three straight games, but they've all essentially been garbage-time appearances, as he hasn't exceeded five minutes in any of those contests. The Lakers value Cook as an experienced backup at point guard who's capable of knocking down outside shots, but he won't have a path to steady playing time while all of LeBron James, Rajon Rondo and Alex Caruso are healthy.

Cook managed 22 points (9-14 FG, 4-7 3Pt), four rebounds, one assist and one steal in 25 minutes during Wednesday's 119-118 loss to the Magic.

EDGE Analysis

Cook poured in a season-high 22 points in the loss, pacing the Lakers on what was a disappointing night. With Rajon Rondo (finger) sidelined, the Lakers are basically going to go with whoever has the hot hand. Cook could very well play 10 minutes in the next game making him a tough player to trust in standard leagues.

Cook tallied just six points in three minutes during Friday's 129-114 victory over Dallas.

EDGE Analysis

Cook emerged in garbage time as the Lakers soundly defeated the Mavericks. After a couple of serviceable efforts earlier in the season, Cook has basically fallen out of the rotation in more recent times. Cook would need multiple injuries to even be considered in 12-team formats.

Cook has gathered eight DNP designations over the Lakers' last 10 games.

EDGE Analysis

Cook started as a regular member of the rotation early in the season, but he saw his role diminish as the calendar advanced and now has eight DNP designations over the Lakers' previous 10 games. He is buried at the end of the Lakers' bench, and he barely has fantasy upside at the moment unless there's an injury to a backcourt player.

Cook contributed two points (1-3 FG, 0-1 3Pt) and an assist in Friday's 136-113 win over the Trail Blazers.

EDGE Analysis

The 26-year-old's recent playing time seems to revolve around two components: game scenario and depth chart. The point guard only participated after Los Angeles established a 20-point lead, and Rajon Rondo (hamstring) left during the contest. Under a typical scenario when the game is close and everyone is healthy, Cook is not expected to be given many minutes and thus has limited value in any fantasy league.

Cook had 17 points (6-9 FG, 3-4 3Pt, 2-3 FT), four rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block in 26 minutes of a 118-112 win against Chicago.

EDGE Analysis

Cook finished with the second most points on the team despite coming off the bench in the contest. Cook played a season-high minutes in the contest with Avery Bradley (lower leg) ruled out. The Lakers seem content to allow LeBron James handle the primary ball handling role, which would keep Cook in a secondary role, however with Bradley and Rajon Rondo out, it opens up minutes for the Duke product and allows James to shift back to his natural position. However when Bradley and Rondo return, Cook will likely see his role decrease.

Cook posted 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-4 3Pt), eight assists and three rebounds across 24 minutes in Sunday's 120-101 win over the Hornets.

EDGE Analysis

When the Lakers are utilizing LeBron as the floor general, you likely won't see much of Cook, but depending on the matchup, we should see James flip over to the wing frequently, and that's where Cook (and eventually Rajon Rondo) will come in handy. Right now, Cook is enjoying a full complement of minutes, but his numbers will inevitably retreat once Rondo is 100 percent healthy.

Cook is dealing with calf soreness but will play Tuesday, Kyle Goon of The Orange County Register reports.

EDGE Analysis

Coach Frank Vogel mentioned that there won't be a minutes restriction on Cook against the Clippers either. However, it shouldn't be a surprise if Cook doesn't play much, as it is the first matchup of the season for the Lakers.
