Speights will sit out Tuesday's preseason game against the Spurs for rest, Josh Robbins of the Orlando Sentinel reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Magic rested the majority of their regular contributors on Monday in the first game of the team's back-to-back set. However, Speights wasn't one of those players and will instead be rested Tuesday in order to keep him fresh for the start of the regular season. Speights should be back for Friday's preseason finale against the Cavaliers, but he'll be stuck as a fairly deep reserve at both power forward and center with the likes of Aaron Gordon, Jonathan Isaac, Nikola Vucevic and Bismack Biyombo all likely ahead of him on the depth chart.

Speights provided 15 points (5-10 FG, 4-7 3Pt, 1-2 FT) and one rebound in 18 minutes during Monday's 99-96 loss to the Mavericks.
EDGE Analysis
Speights matched his career high in threes made and attempted, and he didn't need many minutes to do so. On the other hand, he also managed to commit six turnovers and five fouls. Speights has averaged 15.3 minutes per game in his career, and that's unlikely to improve since he'll be fighting for time with Nikola Vucevic, Aaron Gordon, and Bismack Biyombo, among others.

Speights signed a one-year deal for the veteran's minimum Sunday with the Magic, Jeff Zillgitt of USA Today reports.
EDGE Analysis
After stints on the West Coast in both Golden State and Los Angeles, Speights has elected to return to his home state of Florida for the 2017-18 season. The 29-year-old, who managed to play in all 82 games last season for the first time in his NBA career, will be entering his 10th season as a veteran presence for an overwhelmingly young Magic team. With Orlando having a lot of money invested at center with Nikola Vucevic and Bismack Biyombo, Speights could return to seeing more minutes in his original role in the league as a stretch power forward off the bench.

Speights opted out of his $2.1 million contract for next season Tuesday and will become an unrestricted free agent.
EDGE Analysis
Speights signed with the Clippers for the veteran minimum last offseason and ended up playing in all 82 regular season games for the first time in his now nine-year NBA career. He did, however, play just 15.7 minutes per game, as the former Florida standout has played in a fairly limited role for most of his career. Now, after opting out, Speights may be looking for a larger role and pay raise elsewhere in the NBA. The big man is coming off yet another solid season from behind the arc, as he hit 37.2 percent of his shots from long range while taking a career-high 3.4 threes per game.

Speights produced five points (2-8 FG, 1-5 3Pt), four rebounds and one assist across 20 minutes as a member of the starting unit in Sunday's 105-98 loss to the Jazz.
EDGE Analysis
Speights moved into a starting role due to the absence of Blake Griffin (toe), but he actually finished with his lowest scoring output of the series. He routinely settled for jumpers from long range and was perhaps overexposed a bit, as he entered the contest shooting 44 percent from deep. Speights did contribute his highest rebound total through four postseason games and topped the 20-minute mark for the first time, but those expecting a significant increase in production across the board were left wanting more.

Speights will draw the start at power forward for Sunday's Game 4 against the Jazz/
EDGE Analysis
As expected, with Blake Griffin (toe) out for the remainder of the postseason, coach Doc Rivers will opt to insert Speights into the starting five in Griffin's stead. In two previous starts this season, the big man averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists across 21.5 minutes, making him a solid low-cost DFS option for Sunday's contest.

Speights is expected to start at power forward for Sunday's Game 4 against the Jazz, Brad Turner of the Los Angeles Times reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Clippers recently lost Blake Griffin (toe) for the rest of the postseason, which opens up a spot in the starting five. Coach Doc Rivers is expected to give Speights the first opportunity to work with the top unit, so look for the big man to take on a bigger role heading into Sunday's contest. In two previous starts this season, Speights averaged 13.0 points, 4.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists across 21.5 minutes, and he could be a low-cost, punt-play option for Sunday's DFS slate.

Speights generated eight points (2-5 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT), two rebounds, one assist and one steal over 14 minutes during Saturday's 97-95 loss to the Jazz in Game 1 of the Western Conference first-round playoffs.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran big man co-led the second unit in scoring alongside Jamal Crawford and was typically efficient during limited time on the floor. Speights hasn't averaged double-digit minutes in the postseason since seeing 14.3 minutes per contest over seven games with the Grizzlies in the 2011-12 playoffs, so it remains to be seen if he'll continue to see minutes in the teens in subsequent games. His scoring total Saturday was his best since March 25, when he poured in 11 points against this same Jazz squad.

Speights scored 11 points (4-7 FG, 1-3 3Pt, 2-2 FT) while adding 10 rebounds, three blocks and two assists in 22 minutes off the bench during Saturday's 108-95 win over the Jazz.
EDGE Analysis
It's his fourth double-double of the season, and came in a crucial win that not only secured a playoff spot for the Clippers but put them a half-game behind the Jazz for the fourth seed in the Western Conference and home court advantage in the first round. With Los Angeles' frontcourt healthy, though, there isn't much court time available for Speights right now -- Saturday's 22 minutes were his most in a game since late January.

Speights drew the start at center for DeAndre Jordan (rest) in Thursday's 129-114 loss to the Nuggets but played only 15 minutes, providing eight points (3-6 FG, 2-4 3Pt), five rebounds and one assist.
EDGE Analysis
The veteran big man essentially saw the same amount of time he would have in his usual bench role, with coach Doc Rivers providing Brandon Bass with 24 minutes off the second unit. Despite typically modest minutes, Speights has proven capable of offering solid production relative to his opportunity time and again, so he remains an option in deep formats and as an occasional dart throw in daily leagues.
