Smart (ankle) spent most of Wednesday's practice on the sideline, but hasn't been ruled out for Friday's contest, the Boston Herald reports. Smart was expected to participate in practice heading in to Wednesday, but was reportedly not comfortable enough to do so. He hasn't been ruled out for Friday, however, so the morning shootaround could give a good indication of the status heading into the matchup against Bulls.

Smart (ankle) is expected to practice Wednesday, and is questionable for Friday's game against the Bulls. Coach Brad Stevens said Smart would not have a minutes restriction if he is cleared to play Friday, so owners should feel comfortable deploying him as usual if he is a go.

Smart (ankle) will sit out Sunday's game against the Blazers, Gary Washburn of the Boston Globe reports. The chances of Smart returning were slim at best. After the Blazers game, the Celtics do not play until Friday against the Bulls. That remains Smart's most likely return date.

Celtics' president Danny Ainge believes that Smart (ankle) is "probably at least a week away" from returning to the court, Ben Rohrback of 93.7 WEEI reports. Smart hasn't seen the court since November 7, and appears highly unlikely to suit up for this weekend's contests against the Grizzlies and Blazers. HIs original timetable after suffering the ankle sprain/bone brusie was two-to-three weeks, and Ainge's statements are consistent with that notion. After Sunday's showdown with the Blazers, the Celtics have another five day layoff, making a November 28 return against the Bulls a possibility.

Smart could be back as soon as Sunday, but later next week is more likely, Steve Bulpett of the Boston Herald reports. Smart suffered a severe ankle sprain early in November, and after several weeks of rest, he will be able to return soon. After Sunday, the Celtics have a small break where their next game will not occur until five days later on Friday. Boston will likely hold Smart out of that Sunday game in order to give him five more days of rest and practice before he makes his return to the court. When he returns, expect Smart to resume his statistical outputs of about 20 minutes and 6.8 points per game as he grows into the offense.

Smart has been diagnosed with a left ankle sprain and a bone bruise, and the initial estimate is that he will miss two-to-three weeks, the Boston Herald's Mark Murphy reports. This is about the best news Smart's owners could hope for, as he was seen in a wheelchair after the game, and the thought was that it was a very severe ankle sprain. In Smart's absence, Avery Bradley will likely take on a slightly larger workload, with Phil Pressey serving as the backup point guard behind Rajon Rondo, who is out Saturday to have a screw removed from his hand, incidentally.

Smart's X-rays came back negative Friday, but he is still set to have an MRI later in the evening, ESPN's Jeff Goodman reports. He was seen after Friday's game in a wheelchair with a walking boot on his left foot, so a severe ankle sprain sounds likely. We will have another update once the result of the MRI is released.

Smart suffered a left ankle injury Friday and will have tests done after the game. Smart will remain at the arena following Friday's game to have X-rays, and an update on his status could come later in the evening. Considering how extreme the ankle roll was, and the fact that he left on a stretcher, it seems he will probably miss significant time.

Smart was wheeled off the court on a stretcher Friday after suffering an apparent leg injury. The Celtics' beat writers couldn't quite agree on what Smart's injury might have been, but it was definitely something with his left leg. We will provide an update when the team announces the nature of the injury.

Smart played 25 minutes Monday night and helped spark a furious Celtics comeback that fell just short against Dallas. After being down 31 points, Coach Stevens went with a small, three guard lineup which had Smart guarding Dirk Nowitzki at times. The odd lineup worked, as the Celtics cut to lead to three in the fourth quarter. Smart's defense was ferocious, proving he deserves major minutes. He'll never rack up huge points, but expect good steals, blocks and rebounds from the rookie guard.
