Smart will not play Wednesday against the Clippers due to a hand laceration, Jay King of MassLive.com reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart apparently cut his hand on some glass at the team hotel prior to Wednesday's game and was forced to get stitches. The severity of the laceration is unclear at this point, but the issue is bothersome enough to keep him sidelined for at least one contest. His status should be updated in the coming days, prior to the team's matchup with the Warriors on Saturday. In the meantime, look for Terry Rozier and Semi Ojeleye to benefit from some increased run with Smart out.

Smart produced 22 points (7-13 FG, 4-10 3Pt, 4-4 FT), eight assists, two rebounds and a steal in 22 minutes during Tuesday'a 108-107 loss to the Lakers.
EDGE Analysis
Smart's 22 points outdid any of the recent contests where we replaced Kyrie Irving in the lineup and Tuesday's effort ended up as Smart's second-highest scoring output this season. He pieced together minutes spelling Irving, Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum to manufacture this excellent stat line, and it will be interesting to see how he's utilized going forward. If Brown struggles, or if Irving misses more time, Smart would be a must -add in seasonal leagues.

Smart will return to the bench for Sunday's game against the Magic.
EDGE Analysis
Smart picked up the start on Thursday in place of the injured Kyrie Irving (shoulder), posting 13 points, five rebounds and one assist across 34 minutes. However, Irving has been cleared ahead of Sunday's contest, so he'll rejoin the top unit, which sends Smart back to a bench role. Despite the demotion, Smart shouldn't lose too much playing time, as he's averaging 30.5 minutes so far this season.

Smart provided 13 points (6-11 FG, 1-4 3Pt), five rebounds and one assist across 34 minutes during an 89-80 loss to the 76ers on Thursday.
EDGE Analysis
Smart received the start with Kyrie Irving (shoulder) sidelined and received 34 minutes. He also scored in double figures for the fifth time in the last six outings. Smart has played decently lately, with averages of 12.6 points on 42.9 percent shooting, 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game across his last five games.

Smart (illness) has been cleared to play and will start at point guard in Thursday's matchup with the 76ers, Celtics play-by-play announcer Sean Grande reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart dealt with an illness on Wednesday, but with another night off for rest, he feels better and will take the court as usual. The Celtics are set to be without Kyrie Irving (shoulder), so Smart should have added ball-handling responsibility and could see a slight uptick in his overall workload. That said, Smart has already averaged 30.4 minutes per game this season, so it will likely only be a few extra minutes. Terry Rozier is also a candidate to see extended run, though it will be Smart that picks up the start in Irving's place.

Smart sat out Wednesday's practice with an illness and is considered questionable for Thursday's game against the 76ers, A Sherrod Blakely of NBC Sports Boston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart will go through a heavy dose of rest and recovery over the next 24 hours or so with the hope of feeling well enough to play in Thursday's contests. In these situations, it usually comes down to a game-time decision, so the Celtics may not make a final call on Smart until just prior to tip-off. Kyrie Irving (shoulder) is also questionable for Thursday's matchup, so if both were to sit out, Terry Rozier would be the main beneficiary in the backcourt.

Smart posted 16 points (5-14 FG, 3-8 3Pt, 3-3 FT), five rebounds, five assists, one steal and one block across 30 minutes in Tuesday's 116-113 OT loss to the Pelicans.
EDGE Analysis
Despite coming off the bench, Smart continues to receive starter-like minutes in coach Brad Stevens' rotation. Over the last 10 contests, the pesky defender is averaging 29 minutes per game. Those minutes generally result in nice counting stats, but poor shooting. Last night's loss was no exception. Expect Smart to continue to see major minutes tonight at home versus Philadelphia.

Smart totaled 18 points (8-13 FG, 0-4 3Pt, 2-2 FT), three rebounds, three assists and one steal across 29 minutes during a 91-84 win over the Timberwolves on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
Smart was strong off the bench in Friday's win, as the 18 points marked a team high and also his second-highest point total of the season. It was a fairly rare game in which he shot above 50 percent from the field. Smart's strung two solid games together, but he still tends to be streaky, especially when it comes to shooting.

Smart will shift back to a bench role for Sunday's game against the Nets, A. Sherrod Blakely of NBC Sports Boston reports.
EDGE Analysis
Smart started the last three games in place of Jaylen Brown, but with Brown returning to full strength and rejoining the starting five, Smart will head back to the bench. That said, Smart is still averaging 30.8 minutes this season, so despite the move to the bench, he'll still see a hefty workload with the second unit.

Smart collected 13 points (6-14 FG, 1-5 3Pt), six rebounds, five assists, three blocks and two assists in 34 minutes during Thursday's 99-98 victory over Houston.
EDGE Analysis
This was a typical line for Smart as he contributed across the board in the tight victory. His efficiency is always going to be the one major issue with his game, but he can help teams in many other ways. He was huge down the stretch matching up against James Harden, taking two crucial charges in the later stages of the game. He saw some additional run with Jaylen Brown on the sidelines but should be locked in for consistent minutes, even when Brown does eventually return.
