Smart was reevaluated Monday and is expected to be cleared for game action near the end of April, Shams Charania of Yahoo Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
While Smart will still remain out for at least two-and-a-half more weeks, the news is generally positive for the Celtics and Smart, who was initially given a six-to-eight-week recovery timetable. This latest update indicates that Smart will likely be cleared around the end of the first round of the playoffs, so if the Celtics advance to the Eastern Conference Semifinals, Smart would have a good chance to be available for Game 1 of that series, which would start April 28 at the absolute earliest.

Smart (thumb) will be re-evaluated next week, Adam Himmelsbach of The Boston Globe reports. At that time, an update timetable for his return will likely be provided.
EDGE Analysis
According to Himmelsbach, Smart returning for the conference semifinals seems like the most likely scenario. However, with the team losing Kyrie Irving (knee) for the season, the road to get that far in the playoffs is much more difficult. Regardless, if he's ready by then, he'd likely be in line for a huge role in the backcourt. More information should be provided after he meets with doctors.

Smart (hand) underwent successful surgery Friday and is expected to return to basketball activities in 6-to-8 weeks.
EDGE Analysis
Though Smart will be out through the regular season, it's possible he returns to form just over one week after the team's final game. Until then, the Celtics will have to rely more on their other backcourt options, such as Kyrie Irving (knee), Jaylen Brown (concussion) and Terry Rozier.

Smart (thumb) will undergo surgery on his right thumb Friday and will miss the remainder of the regular season, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Celtics had been going back and forth regarding how to handle Smart's injury, and it's been decided that surgery is the best course of action. While the procedure will keep the versatile, defensive-minded guard out for at least a month, there's hope that he'd be able to return sometime in the playoffs, particularly if the Celtics are are able to make a deep run in the East. In the short-term, Boston will be shorthanded in the backcourt with Kyrie Irving (knee) and Jaylen Brown (concussion) banged up, but once they return, it'll likely be Terry Rozier who absorbs a larger portion of Smart's workload.

Smart (thumb) has officially been ruled out for Wednesday's game against the Wizards.
EDGE Analysis
The Celtics still haven't quite determined the severity of Smart's thumb injury and he's expected to see a hand specialist in New York in the near future to provide some clarity. According to Mark Murphy of the Boston Herald, a league source indicated that the Celtics aren't sure what the probability of Smart playing again this season is, so it appears the thumb injury could be fairly severe. Look for Smart to miss at least the next few games, with another update on his status likely being provided once he's gone through his appointment with the hand specialist. With Kyrie Irving (knee) ruled out for Wednesday's contest, in addition to Smart, Terry Rozier is going to be in line for a hefty workload at point guard.

Smart (thumb) is setting up an appointment in New York with a hand specialist to determine the severity of his injury, David Aldridge of Turner Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
This news certainly does not bode well for Smart's status in the immediate future -- Wednesday's game against Washington -- nor his longer-term status this season. More information should become available after his appointment. The Celtics need Smart, however, as the injuries have been piling up. In the backcourt, Kyrie Irving is dealing with persistent knee issues, while Jaylen Brown is still recovering from a concussion.

Smart is dealing with a sprained right thumb and his status for Wednesday's game against the Wizards is uncertain, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Celtics are already dealing with a plethora of injuries, with the likes of Al Horford (illness), Kyrie Irving (knee), Jaylen Brown (concussion) and Daniel Theis (knee) all recently going down with injuries. The medical staff is reportedly still evaluating Smart's thumb and a decision should be made in the near future regarding whether or not Smart will need to take some time off for the injury to heal. For now, consider Smart questionable for Wednesday and if he were to miss time, Terry Rozier would likely see a monster workload at point guard considering Irving's likely absence as well. Shane Larkin would also be relied upon for some significant rotation minutes in the backcourt.

Smart produced 20 points (6-13 FG, 6-12 3Pt, 2-2 FT), eight assists, seven rebounds and four steals in 36 minutes during Sunday's 99-97 loss to the Pacers.
EDGE Analysis
Smart was already poised to see a substantial increase in production with Jaylen Brown (concussion) out, and the early departure of Kyrie Irving put even more pressure on the Celtics backcourt. All of Smart's field goals came from beyonf the arc and had an excellent stat line despite the loss. Smart should continue to have more success as lomg as Brown remains out.

Smart will enter the starting five for Sunday's game against the Pacers, Celtics play-by-play announcer Sean Grande reports.
EDGE Analysis
The Celtics are dealing with a couple of injuries to their usual starters, as they'll be without both Al Hoford (illness) and Jaylen Brown (concussion). That gives Smart an opportunity to enter the starting five and he could stick there for the next few games with Brown potentially missing another week or so. Look for Smart to see some minor gains across the board with his promotion to the top unit, despite already seeing a fairly hefty workload off the bench.

Smart totaled 12 points (5-9 FG, 2-6 3Pt), six assists and three rebounds across 26 minutes during a 110-98 win over the Pistons on Friday.
EDGE Analysis
In his return from an 11-game absence, Smart made a solid contribution off the bench. The 26 minutes he received is close to his normal workload, so it doesn't look like the team is going to ease him back into his role too much. Smart will continue to provide owners with decent assist and steal numbers.
