VanVleet delivered four points (2-5 FG, 0-1 3Pt), four assists, three steals, and two rebounds in 23 minutes during the Raptors' 109-79 win over the Magic on Sunday.
EDGE Analysis
VanVleet contributed career highs in several categories, namely assists, steals, rebounds, minutes, and shot attempts. With Corey Joseph (illness) sitting out, VanVleet was called upon to serve as the backup point guard, and the rookie did especially well considering the fact that he had only seen a combined 15 minutes during his first five appearances. Still, Joseph should be back on the court soon, and VanVleet will likely earn much more playing time in the D-League than for the Raptors this season.

VanVleet was recalled Sunday from the D-League's Raptors 905.
EDGE Analysis
VanVleet scored a team-high 23 points (9-21 FG, 0-3 3Pt, 5-5 FT) for the 905 on Saturday, also adding one rebound, three assists and one steal over 30 minutes. However, VanVleet has yet to log any minutes with the big club so far this season, so despite being recalled, he remains a non-factor in fantasy leagues.

VanVleet earned a spot on the Raptors' final roster heading into the regular season, Bobby marks of USA Today Sports reports.
EDGE Analysis
The undrafted rookie figured to be a long shot at making the final roster when training camp started, but a strong showing in the preseason earned him a spot. He recorded 31 points (12-19 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 5-7 FT), five assists, five rebounds and a steal across 38 minutes in his finest performance of the exhibition season against Argentinian club San Lorenzo de Almagro. VanVleet will presumably start the season as the third string point guard behind Kyle Lowry and Cory Joseph.

VanVleet contributed 31 points (12-19 FG, 2-3 3Pt, 5-7 FT), five assists, five rebounds and a steal across 38 minutes in Friday's 122-105 win over Argentinian club San Lorenzo de Almagro.
EDGE Analysis
With the Raptors holding out seven of their key regulars, including starting point guard Kyle Lowry, VanVleet received an extended opportunity to direct the offense and didn't disappoint. While the quality of the opponent needs to be taken into consideration, it's worth noting that VanVleet was the best player on the court for this game while getting his points in incredibly efficient fashion. He looks to have a good case for the third-string point guard role to open the season with Delon Wright (shoulder) sidelined.

VanVleet will start in the Raptors preseason tilt against the Argentinian club San Lorenzo on Friday, Ryan Wolstat of the Toronto Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
VanVleet draws the start while all of Toronto's usual starters are rested. He'll likely see a large minutes increase Friday before returning to his usual role when the top guys return.

VanVleet managed only three points (1-5 FG, 1-3 3Pt), three assists, a rebound and a steal over 21 minutes in Wednesday's 104-98 preseason loss to the Clippers.
EDGE Analysis
The undrafted rookie got the starting nod with Kyle Lowry sitting out, but couldn't quite parlay the opportunity into a strong effort. VanVleet is vying for the third point guard role behind Lowry and Corey Joseph, and had turned in a solid eight-point effort over just 12 minutes against the Nuggets on Monday. However, he was notably outperformed by his main competitor for the third-string point guard job, Brady Heslip, who managed 13 points over just nine minutes. The battle between the two is expected to extend throughout the preseason slate, with the loser almost certainly being jettisoned.

VanVleet has a good chance of being the Raptors' third point guard to begin the regular season due to Delon Wright's shoulder injury, The Toronto Sun reports.
EDGE Analysis
VanVleet, an undrafted free agent out of Wichita State, is likely battling Brady Heslip for the bench role but has the upper hand as a more natural point guard. If he does break camp on the Raptors' roster, VanVleet would be a DNP - Coach's Decision on most nights, but Kyle Lowry's had trouble staying healthy in the past so the rookie could find himself seeing significant minutes behind Cory Joseph if Lowry breaks down. VanVleet averaged 6.2 points, 3.0 boards and 1.6 assists in 16 minutes a game for the Raptors' team in the Las Vegas Summer League in July.
