The injury, which Walters sustained on a headfirst dive into home plate, will likely close off any possibility of a September call-up. Walters struggled during a 12-game stint with the Tribe earlier this season, batting .133 with 15 strikeouts and no walks in 30 plate appearances.

Walters was optioned to Triple-A Columbus on Thursday, Jordan Bastian of MLB.com reports. Walters was recalled on June 9 and appeared in four games, making two starts and going 3-for-10 at the plate with a pair of RBI. He'll head back to Triple-A, where he holds a .259/.309/.411 slash line in 112 at-bats.

Walters is in the lineup Wednesday against Seattle, batting seventh and playing third base. Walters was recalled from Triple-A Columbus on Tuesday and will face right-hander Taijuan Walker in his first game back with the big league club. In his previous stint with the Indians back in May, Walters went 1-for-17 with eight strikeouts and no walks.

Walters went 0-for-4 from the plate Monday against the White Sox in his seventh game with the Indians. Walters was just called up at the beginning of the month. Although he's had a very small sample size in the majors this season, he only has one hit in seven games and has struck out at least once in all but one of his appearances.

Walters was recalled from Triple-A on Friday. Mike Aviles will be away from the team dealing with a personal matter for 3-to-7 days, so the Indians called upon the other quality utility man in the organization. Walters may see a start or two in the short term, but he will likely be sent back down once Aviles rejoins the team.
